When we feel stress, we tend to reach for pleasure seeking activities and vices to lift our mood. Goal-oriented strategies emphasize staying focused, which is generally good advice. But if we’re not stopping to appreciate the fruit of our efforts, we’ll train our subconscious in ways that greatly hinder fulfillment and long-lasting motivation.
