Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera announced Friday that he will be fining defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio $100,000 over his recent statements calling out hypocrisy and double standards surrounding the January 6th demonstrations and Black Lives Matter riots.
The saga began earlier in the week when the Commanders’ Jack Del Rio dubbed the summer of 2020 a “summer of riots, looting, burning and the destruction of personal property,” at the hands of Black Lives Matter and other far-left militants. Those remarks came in response to a Tweet from CNN legal analyst Norm Eisen, who’d linked a webpage laying out his “guide” for throwing President Trump and others at odds with the far-left in prison for questioning the 2020 election.
After calling out Eisen and the left’s hypocrisy and double standards over Twitter, coach Del Rio doubled down when he was pressed by left-wing sports reporters at the Commanders’ facility, saying that Americans are being treated with “two standards” depending on which side of the political aisle they fall on.
After Del Rio’s Tweet and in-person remarks, left-wing media and politicians came out seemingly in unison to demand a retraction from Del Rio, or action against him and his speech from the Commanders as an organization. Far-left Virginia State Senator Jeremy McPike even claimed he’d no longer support a new Commanders stadium being constructed in Virginia, because of his difference in opinion with the team’s defensive coordinator.
In a statement published by the team, head coach Ron Rivera, who has become one of ESPN and the far-left’s biggest NFL poster boys, said that he met with Del Rio to let him know how “disappointed” he is in him over his “extremely hurtful comments” and opted to fine him $100,000 for daring to contradict the left’s narrative.
“His comments do not reflect the organization’s views and are extremely hurtful to our great community here,” Rivera said in the statement released by the Commanders via Twitter, their team logo adorned with the gay pride flag, as well as a brown and black stripe to stand in “solidarity” with Black Lives Matter and other left-wing racial militants.
Rivera went on to toe the Democrat Party line on the events of January 6th, even citing the televised hearing of Nancy Pelosi’s hyper-partisan J6 Committee in saying “as we saw last night in the hearings, what happened on [sic] the Capitol on January 6, 2021 was an act of domestic terrorism.”
“His words hurt a lot of people,” Rivera went on to claim in the statement.
“I want to make it clear that our organization will not tolerate any equivalency between those who demanded justice in the wake of George Floyd’s murder and the actions of those on January 6 who sought to topple our government. After reflecting on the situation and circumstances, I have decided to fine Coach Del Rio $100,000, which the team will donate to the United States Capitol Police Memorial Fund.”
