Hate is the New Love

Sunday, May 15, 2022 By Stillness in the Storm Leave a Comment

(Janet Phelan) Back in the sixties, a group of us used to troop off campus during lunch hour to convene in a nearby park. Some of us used this break in routine to inhale some weed, others smooched behind a tree and some of us seriously discussed the contents of the next issue of the school’s underground newspaper. We made some efforts to avoid the campus “dick” until we realized he was merrily waving to us as we defied authority (!) and went off campus.

Have We Moved Past Heterosexual Romance?

Friday, June 11, 2021 By Stillness in the Storm 1 Comment

(Charlotte Cushman) The romantic relationship between a man and a woman is one of life’s greatest joys.  This distinctive and valuable relationship needs a defense and a greater understanding, and Ronald Pisaturo provides it in his book Masculine Power, Feminine Beauty: The Volitional, Objective Basis for Heterosexuality in Romantic Love and Marriage.[1]  He presents a positive theory of heterosexual romantic love and a cogent defense for marriage, fidelity, masculinity, femininity, and much more.

The Price of False Expectations: How “Romantic Culture” from the Past Destroys Relationships in the Present

Sunday, September 13, 2020 By Stillness in the Storm 2 Comments

(Justin Deschamps) Romanticism, according to author Alain De Botton, introduced the idea of love, romance, and soul mates into modern culture. Before that, marriage was more about business and procreation, not so much about personal fulfillment. Surely, there are some good things that came from romantic thinking, like the idea that love should be a guiding force inn relationships. But it also introduced several ideas that to this day cause the modern man and women a lot of problems.

LOVE NOT HATE: This Black Musician Befriended Ku Klux Klan Leaders Inspiring Hundreds of Members to Abandon the Cult

Sunday, August 16, 2020 By Stillness in the Storm Leave a Comment

(Mayukh Saha) A musician can’t just stick to one form of music and consider it their calling. They need to explore diverse fields and be a master of them all. It gives them a vast repertoire of choices and also gives them worldly wisdom. And no musician can epitomize this thought better than Daryl Davis- an African American pianist who has had the good fortune to play with Chuck Berry, BB King, and others. Not only does he play the Blues, but he also plays jazz, classical, rock, and dabbles in others. But maybe his life’s calling was his performance in Maryland. There he was the only Black person in the entire hall filled with members of the Ku Klux Klan.
