I received an email from Emma, a blog writer from a company called RelayRides, a company which provides a peer-to-peer car sharing service in many major cities in the United States.
Synchronistically, I was having a discussion with a friend here in Aouchtam Morocco about cars and how poorly everything is being used; from car idle time, to risk of accident and loss of equipment (the car). As the Infographic below reveals, many cars go unused for the majority of their life time. Most of us use our cars to go to work, where they sit all day long, until we need them again to go home or out and about.
Imagine if instead of each person having to pay for their own car, we lived in a world where ALL car’s were the for the collective use of everyone. I know sounds like a Communistic system where we have to pledge ownership to society. And given the nature of our ‘legal’ system, we already do this in sense because we actually pledge everything we own to the bankers via their agreements with us; something most of us never become aware of in life.
“But if I give my car away I won’t have it when I need it!?”
This is the usual scarcity thinking reaction for not wanting to operate in a communal society, but as long as there is an abundance of the thing shared, there is no problem. No one worries about Air to breath because there is enough to go around. And similarly if a car sharing system was done properly and honorably, it would work to meet everyone’s individual needs. But it would require a shift in thinking and a level of cooperation which our would-be masters spend huge amounts of energy ensuring we never consider. And we ourselves are very leery to break away from a known system to step into the unknown and make a drastic change. But as Buckminster Fuller aptly states:
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality.
To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

Now I can not say if RelayRides is the Ultimate solution to the transportation problems on earth, but I can say that the premise, the concept, is definitely applicable. It may very well be the transitory mechanism which changes the paradigm of transportation on Earth. The fact is, when people work together and pool their resources as well as their risks, everything gets easier.
Just look at the system of Corporations the world over, and you will realize that they all ‘have each other’s back.’ They all are either co-owned, insured, or managed by an interconnected web, each supporting the other and always serving a group of extremely wealthy elites. And despite the common belief that our World Economy operates based on Competition, in reality nearly all the Corporations in the world work together, against us, to maintain their profit margins and existence; suppressing paradigm changing technology and new ways of thinking to keep a death grip on the market.
So even if you do not use the company RelayRides, at the very least contemplate the moral of their story. Peer-to-peer car sharing and creating a private system whereby each person gains access to the abundance of a sharing model is huge. And we can apply this template of peer-to-peer sharing to include nearly every physical resource on Earth. This is where the idea of a Resourced Based Economy comes in. Where we stop basing our motivations on an artificial resource called ‘money’ – that misrepresents all the other resources in our lives. Consider the fact that a farmer grows the food they do, not because it is the healthiest, or the most wanted, but because in the world economy he can make the most money; which usually means an over abundance of a crop that is doing very little good for humanity. GMO Corn in the U.S. is a prime example of this, and there are countless “foods” developed using corn products as a result which are horrible for your health.
As a side note: One of the points illuminated in the Infographic are CO2 levels which could be reduced by using a car sharing system. This is of course true, but CO2 is NOT a poison or a gas we need worry about regulating. Once you review the hard data yourself, you can see that ‘man-made’ climate change is a myth pushed by our would-be masters to impose more scarcity on the system.
RelayRides is but one example of a new way, which we can consider and expand upon.

There are 254M registered passenger vehicles in the US, but only 196M licensed drivers. That means there are 1.3 cars out there for every driver. Think about that. Including children and other people who can’t drive, there is more than one car for every person in the country. In addition, the average car sits idle for all but an hour a day!
