(Stillness in the Storm Editor) Simply put: you were designed for play. Within our brain, systems designed to encourage us to explore the unknown reward us for bravery in the face of uncertainty. That feeling of excitement you get when you’re about to do something you’ve been looking forward to is this mechanism of positive emotion through exploration.
This means that learning how to face challenges using playfulness is a surefire way to create happiness while avoiding victimhood.
This means that anytime you block yourself from exploring something, usually because it’s frightening in some way, you prevent yourself from feeling good about it. This can cause a chronic victimhood mindset that leads to other withdrawing behavior.
Even though it is challenging, you can use the force of your will to overcome a resistance you’ve created. One technique is to imagine the thing you resist has something you value locked away inside it. Let yourself feel the desire to explore and then act on that with respect to the resistence. This will reverse the victim response through the bravery response.
Maybe children have it more figured out than adults after all?
