Those opposed to GM agriculture in favor of healthy, organic food have a lot to celebrate as we enter the new year. It’s just been announced that Monsanto plans to eliminate another 1,000 jobs, in addition to the 2,600 it slashed last fall, resulting in a 16 percent decrease in its total workforce.

Meanwhile, sales of organic products are on the increase, as consumers learn more about the benefits of a diet consisting of healthy, natural food.

Monsanto’s empire beginning to crumble

Not so long ago, it seemed as if the GMO-pushing agricultural giant Monsanto was nearly invincible. With its deep pockets, the Frankenfood machine was able to buy off politicians, judges and scientists, who all became complicit in an evil plot – the goal of which was to take over and control nearly the entire global agricultural industry.

Monsanto’s grand scheme involved replacing traditional farming techniques with a poisonous, environmentally-unsound, laboratory-engineered substitute, based on the cultivation of genetically-modified plants – a system which also happened to require the use of carcinogenic pesticides just to function.

Needless to say, this scheme was opposed by many – from farmers, to scientists, to consumers – but Monsanto’s intense lobbying and propaganda efforts succeeded in allowing the company to spread its poisonous tentacles throughout the globe, before the opposition could do anything about it.

The turning of the tide

But then, over the past couple of years, things have begun to change.

Through the unflagging efforts of the worldwide anti-GMO movement, public awareness increased and millions of ordinary people began to voice their opposition to the GM agricultural industry – joining forces with the environmental activists, objective scientists, organic farmers and others who had been fighting against the Frankenfood industry all along.

In response to the growing opposition, many countries began outlawing or restricting GMO cultivation, and demand for GM crops began to drop, resulting in losses of hundreds of millions of dollars in profits for Monsanto in the 2015 financial year.

As Monsanto continues to lose favor worldwide, resulting in plummeting profits, the organic food industry continues to expand. Growing awareness of their health benefits, combined with increased availability, has given a boost to the sales of organic foods, which are grown without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers.

Consumers across the globe are becoming increasingly health conscious, which has resulted in a change in their tastes and preferences. A growing number of consumers are moving towards consumption of organic food in place of conventional food, to avoid adverse health effects caused by chemical preservatives or genetically modified ingredients present in inorganic food. Moreover, the increasing popularity of organic products has significantly expanded the availability of organic food across the globe. With organic food becoming easily accessible, global organic food market is expected to witness remarkable growth over the forecast period.

But the fight’s not over yet.

Monsanto, along with several other bio-tech corporations, continue to develop and market their unnatural, dangerous laboratory creations.

It’s a shocking fact that more than 80 percent of the food consumed in North America now contains GMOs.

Those who care about their family’s health and the global environment should do two things:

Buy only Certified Organic products: Certified Organic products, according to the Organic Trade Association, may not contain any GMO ingredients: This means an organic farmer can’t plant GMO seeds, an organic cow can’t eat GMO alfalfa or corn, and an organic soup producer can’t use any GMO ingredients. To meet the USDA organic regulations, farmers and processors must show they aren’t using GMOs, and that they are protecting their products from contact with prohibited substances, such as GMOs, from farm to table.

Get involved: Support the efforts of organizations such as the Non-GMO Project and the Organic Consumers Association. Sign petitions, participate in anti-GMO marches and demonstrations. Educate yourself, your family and your peers about the dangers of GMO products, and the benefits of eating organic.
