Did Buddha have ‘supernormal’ human powers or was he just a nice guy?
Many conventionally-trained scientists doubt the existence of such things as, psychic phenomena or super human abilities. For example, was Buddha just a great teacher and kind person or was he truly an ‘enlightened’ being? Naturally, we may ask the same question about Jesus, Moses, Mohammed, plus many other historical figures.
According to Dr. Radin, “many ancient teachings tell us that we have the capacity to gain extraordinary powers through grit or grace. Techniques used to achieve these supernormal abilities, known as siddhis in the yoga tradition (from the Sanskrit, meaning ‘perfection”) include meditation, ecstatic dancing, drumming, praying, chanting, fasting…” – the list goes on and on.
Personally speaking, I think faith or belief has a tremendous physical influence over our lives. How else could you explain miraculous stories of healing or extraordinary feats of strength displayed by people in desperate times – like an ‘ordinary’ woman lifting a car off of a trapped person? In other words, with enough motivation (or practice), one can acquire ‘super human’ skills.
The yoga explosion – why is this happening?
The practice of yoga, in the west, was once considered an ‘exotic’ Eastern activity. Today, the fitness industry, professional sports teams plus thousands of yoga studios promote the health benefits of yoga. Naturally, it’s easy to understand the physical health benefits of yoga like, improved flexibility.
But, is it possible that yoga (or any other spiritually-oriented practice) has grown in popularity because of its ability to transform human consciousness? Western medicine promotes a pill for every ill – but there is a better (safer) way to strengthen our body and mind – without toxic chemicals. More and more people are waking up to the truth about disease prevention, healing and human potential.
For example, kids don’t need more anti-anxiety drugs to improve their school performance – they need ‘quiet time’ (mediation) to reduce stress, enhance self-confidence and boost creativity. This information is systematically being suppressed by the pharmaceutical / medical cartel.

Dean Radin, PhD, is Chief Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) and Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Psychology at Sonoma State University. Before joining the research staff at IONS in 2001, he held appointments at AT&T Bell Labs, Princeton University, University of Edinburgh, and SRI International, where he worked on a classified program investigating psychic phenomena for the United States government.
He is author or coauthor of over 200 technical and popular articles, a dozen book chapters, and three books including the award-winning The Conscious Universe, Entangled Minds and most recently, Supernormal.
