(Stillness in the Storm Editor) As we’ve discussed on Stillness in the Storm, understanding our nature and the physical reality we inhabit is essential. Of which, the biological rewards were preprogrammed with are inescapable aspects of human life. Specifically, your body and brain is designed to reward you when you maintain social connections. Big tech, via the powers that be, has created a technological system that hijacks this ancient social reward system in your brain. It’s called social media. Maybe you’ve heard of it.
There is much to discuss in how this system works, why it’s important to understand, why we should be working to replace it with better life-sustaining methods.
In short, dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin are designed to reward you with positive emotion when you properly maintain your social attachments. Social media hijacks this system, making us feel rewarded if we use it, but not as much as we would have if we had a real, authentic and complete interaction with someone we value. Your inner child, to put it simply, yearns to be seen, heard, and felt. Social media can’t really satisfy this demand, it can only give you a thin impression of true expression. Thus, while we can be lead to believe we’ve maintained social connections with people over social media, our inner child knows the truth—it’s an illusion.
Community and true authentic human connection is the answer. Is this what we have on social media? Not really. To be sure, there are obviously good things happening, people can connect across the world, stay in better touch, and exchange ideas that enhance well-being. But these additional benefits cannot replace what humans have needed as a part of human nature since the beginning.
In short, we’re rewiring our brains in a way that is making us less sensitive to the more subtle aspects of social stimulation.
I argue we need to understand what’s happening so we can safeguard against harmful technology.
The good news is, a well-trained mind can use what’s happening as a learning tool. By understanding the bad effects of social media, we can better understand our nature, so as to remake our social world so that we can be more and more fulfilled at all levels of being. This will ensure we are physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually cared for as we manage life and seek to advance it in harmony with truth, justice, and goodness.

Stillness in the Storm Editor: Why did we post this?
Corruption is endemic to our world. Organizations that gain the trust of the people misuse that trust and are rarely brought to justice. The people have a valid right to know of the activities of its public servants so as to dethrone them once malfeasance or wrongdoing has been identified. The preceding article highlights corruption within public service institutions, revealing a breach of trust with respect to their lawful mandate to occupy said office. It is critically important for the evolution of society that individuals become aware of corruption, so as to unite together and declare grievances in an effort to correct the situation. When those grievances aren’t recognized by those in office, the people now have a valid right to remove the lawless individuals in these positions of power so as to restore law and order. All of this can only be possible individuals to gain awareness of the corruption at hand and begin the process of forming actions groups capable of issuing lawful rebukes. If done properly, the forces that oversee the realms of men will rally to support the people.
