Today, it’s being reported that a massive number of fed-up citizens in Cuba, who didn’t buy into Barack and Michelle Obama’s kumbaya moment with the evil government, are taking to the streets to protest the authoritarian regime. Reports coming out of Cuba appear to confirm that the protests are the largest the communist country has seen in decades.

Thousands of Cubans are taking over the street of San Antonio de Los Banos, a town of about 50,000 people southwest of Havana, Many are calling it a revolution. Protesters yelling, “Down with the dictatorship” could be seen on “We want liberty.”

Senator Ted Cruz tweeted about the protest:

The Communist Cuban regime will be consigned to the dustbin of history. It has brutalized & denied freedom to generations of Cubans, and forced my family & so many others to flee. The American people stand squarely with the men & women of Cuba and their noble fight for liberty.

According to MSN – Some of the demonstrators, mainly young people, shouted insults against President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who turned up at the event, according to amateur videos posted online, while others proclaimed: “We are not afraid.”

Social anger has been driven by long food lines and a critical shortage of medicines since the start of the COVID-19 epidemic, with Cuba under U.S. sanctions.

Under hashtags such as #SOSCuba, calls for assistance have multiplied on social media, with citizens and rap stars alike urging the government to make it possible for much-needed foreign donations to enter the country.

Miami Herald reports – From the Malecón, Havana’s famous seawall near the old city, to small towns in Artemisa province and Palma Soriano, the second-largest city in Santiago de Cuba province, videos live-streamed on Facebook showed thousands of people walking and riding bikes and motorcycles along streets while chanting “Freedom!” “Down with Communism!” and “Patria y Vida” — Homeland and Life — which has become a battle cry among activists after a viral music video turned the revolutionary slogan “Homeland or Death” on its head.
