“He’s running from the scene because shots are being fired,” the lawyer says, to which the judge replies, “And he’s got a holster on.”
“Your Honor, in light of what’s happening in this country, uh, with, with unarmed black black men being killed by police – ” the lawyer spuuters.
Judge Hurley waves his hand dismissively at the attorney’s attempt to invoke statistically false Black lives Matter tropes.”Don’t hand me that, don’t hand me that [garbage] – don’t even go down that road, I’m not gonna let you go down that road, that is so off-base.”
“We’ve got a young man, I don’t care what color he is, he’s in a neighborhood he doesn’t live in at 1:41 in the morning, hiding under somebody’s dock in the water with a holster on after a police officer had a shot taken at him,” the judge continues. “Don’t hand me this, ‘he’s a black man running from police brutality,’ look, that is not appropriate in this case, that’s not there. I’m not gonna let you poison this case.”

The judge went on to set the defendant’s bond at $100,000, causing the suspect to dejectedly put his faces in his hands.
