Twitter Permanently Bans Mypillow CEO Mike Lindell over Purported Election Misinformation

According to Reuters, Lindell also financed “post-election protest movements” in a bid to overturn the Electoral College certification of President Joe Biden.

Dominion Voting Systems has also threatened Lindell — who has repeatedly called for an investigation into the results of the 2020 presidential election — with defamation lawsuits over his claims that the company was complicit in a voter fraud scheme.

What are the details?

Lindell, who has been outspoken in his demand for election transparency, will no longer be permitted to use Twitter.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Twitter told CNN, “The account you referenced has been permanently suspended due to repeated violations of our Civic Integrity Policy.”

The policy in question stipulates that the number of violations determines the level of suspension, ranging from a 12-hour lock on a user’s account to a permanent ban.

“You may not use Twitter’s services for the purpose of manipulating or interfering in elections or other civil processes,” the company said in a January statement on the policy. According to CNN, those processes include “political elections, censuses, and major referenda and ballot initiatives.”

The spokesperson did not specify which of Lindell’s tweets earned him the permanent ban, but Forbes points out that the company has been “active in using the policy to remove accounts spouting misinformation and conspiracy theories surrounding the U.S. presidential election in the aftermath of the [U.S.] Capitol riots.”

Many of those accounts, according to Forbes, belonged to not only former President Donald Trump himself, but “many of his prominent allies and over 70,000 QAnon conspiracy theorists.”

MyPillow has yet to issue a comment on Lindell’s ban at the time of this writing.

Earlier in January, Lindell said that several retailers — including Bed Bath & Beyond, Wayfair, and more — have dropped Lindell’s MyPillow products.

“I just got off the phone with Bed Bath & Beyond. They’re dropping MyPillow,” he said of the move. “Just got off the phone not five minutes ago. Kohl’s, all these different places. These guys don’t understand. … They’re scared. They were good partners. In fact, I told them, ‘You guys come back any time you want.'”
