by Justin Deschamps,
The will to love might be the thing that makes it so. Ever notice how the mere desire to find a way to love something often fans the flames of that very spark of love? And the inverse is also true; the desire to hate a thing makes it so within our being.
If love is a creative force, and it causes whatever we pour into it to become bigger, stronger, grander than maybe all were ever doing is making love.
When you hate another, is this not an act of love, except the love of what is toxic and destructive instead of the love of what is life-sustaining and supportive?
Can we argue that one who hates their job with every fiber of their being must be in love with this act of hate?
Love might be the most creative force in the universe.
But I think it’s greatly misunderstood.
The will to love opens the path for that love to give life to what is loved.
If we love those things which bring pain, suffering, and chaos, then surely pain, suffering, and chaos are what we’ll give life too within our selves, and by extension, the world.
But maybe if we dare to love beyond our pain, our trauma, and our victimhood, we can will a better version of ourselves into being. And with this better version, will a better world into manifestation—all through an act of love.
The generative power of making love doesn’t only happen during physical sex.
To make love, I think if we take it the most literally, is to make love with something—our idea or notion of it, which is what we interact with when we say we love something.
What I mean is, when we say we love something we’re not just talking about the fact we appreciate it, we’re also talking about how we appreciate it.
The how determines the quality of what is loved. What we experience is the product of what we choose to love and how we chose to love it. But the how is the most influential. Without learning how to love in trust, in respect, in honor, the thing we love will wither to ashes or be smashed to pieces in our hasty and unmasterful grip.
An abusive husband loves their wife. But the way they love their wife is destructive, leading to a future where the husband can no longer express his love so as to be received by his wife joyfully. The husband who learns to dispense their love in trust, in respect of the rights of his wife, will find new and more fulfilling ways to love. Only love in trust can create more love than what was originally dispensed therewith.
The how is what characterizes our love. It’s what sets the stage for the future. To learn how to love in trust, with respect, in honor of rights and sovereignty, of ourselves and another, is to learn how to love for abundance. The more we love in trust, in union with law, the more our love grows, overflowing the cup it was initially thought to be contain in.
Book The 48 Laws of Power
How we love a thing becomes the basis of our experience of it. The thing we make love to grows within; it becomes something more than it was when we started. It grows like a seed; it’s tendrils reaching out to make contact with other things we’ve allowed ourselves to love.
Maybe, to make love, not war is a warning speaking to the agency of motivation, how we kindle our hearts toward action.
Maybe, we have to choose this in every moment, and what we choose can be loosely understood as an act of love or an act of fear.
Will we use love or war to fuel the engines of action within our being?
Will you choose the path of light or darkness?
The dark side or the light side of the force?

Stillness in the Storm Editor: Why did we post this?
Love is one of the most powerful forces in the universe. It has been said, God is love. We, as the children of love, seek it out in our lives in many different ways. Love is one of the primal emotions, with fear being the other. While the word love has been diluted over the years, life is filled with many different types of love that we would do well to identify. The preceding article discusses this powerful emotion and fundamental spiritual reality. Understanding how your life and motivations are guided by love is critically important for the development of balanced consciousness, capable of meeting the needs of the heart while at the same time, leaving a wake of benevolence. If the human race rediscovered the power of love and fellowship, the world could be transformed in short order. The strongest type of love is spiritual kinship, the love that emerges through the recognition of yourself as a child of the Creator, making all other living things your spiritual brothers and sisters. An individual that seeks spiritual maturity must learn how to balance and harmonizes their love urges. In doing so, they restore order to the chaos of their lives while at the same time preparing themselves for the Great Work of improving this world through fellowship, fraternity, and the goodness of an enlightened spirit-led soul.
