(B.N. Frank) Earlier this month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced it started investigating safety defects in electric vehicle (EV) batteries. That seems appropriate since there have been numerous EV recalls, many of which have been due to battery fires (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). Despite this, and other significant EV issues (including environmental ones), the U.S. government continues to promote EVs as “green” and fund the deployment of charging stations. States continue to pass EV mandates as well. These proponents and others also continue to ignore increasing warnings that already at-risk American electric grids (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) aren’t ready for countless more EVs.
