Schumer Accidentally Gives Game Away, Voting Rights Bill About Keeping Democrats Permanently in the Majority

(Steve Straub) During an interview this morning on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that he and his colleagues are talking with West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin and Arizona Senator Krysten Sinema to get them to reverse course and agree to modify the filibuster in order to pass their so called ‘voting rights’ legislation.

During the course of the interview Schumer accidentally gave away what the ‘voting rights’ bill is really all about, Democrats getting elected and re-elected in order to create a permanent majority for his party.

Willie Geist started by asking Senator Schumer if Democrats were ready to concede and move on to other things now that Joe Manchin has officially announced his continued opposition to modifying or eliminating the filibuster.

Schumer said that Democrats wouldn’t concede anything so Geist asked if he thinks they can push Manchin to reverse course on this.

“Well, we are working. There are constant meetings. Not just among a few senators, but just about every senator, every single one of the 50, is talking individually to Joe Manchin, to Kyrsten Sinema,” Schumer said.

“And they’re saying things like, “I’ll lose my election if the legislature is allowed to do this in my state. We’ll lose our majority but, more importantly, we’ll lose our democracy.” And those speakers yesterday I mentioned were very powerful. So we’re having constant discussions. Last night for 2 1/2 hours, nine senators of disparate ideologies and regions met with Senator Sinema. As soon as I finish this interview, nine of us have meeting with Manchin. We’re having constant discussions and we’re exploring ways they are against eliminating the filibuster.”

“Many in our caucus are for it but even those who are not are for changes in the rule, not for eliminating it totally,” Schumer added. “Even those who are not for eliminating it totally are more changes in the rules that allow us to pass voting rights. We’re actively discussing potential changes in the rules that hopefully can get all 50 of us there.”

“Do I want to delude people to think it’s easy and we’re almost there? No. It’s an uphill fight, but we’re constantly at it. Manchin and Sinema are still talking to us, all of us, on a very regular and tense basis, and we are going to keep fighting and pushing and hope that we can get this done. It’s too important to drop.”

It’s clear Democrats are in panic mode.

Both Senator Manchin and Senator Sinema have so far at least thwarted their attempts to fundamentally transform this nation into a socialist country and Democrat leaders know they will soon lose at least the House if not the Senate and their opportunity will slip away.

Lets hope these two brave and patriotic Democrat Senators continue to hold out against the enormous amount of pressure being applied to them by members of their own party, corporate interests and the media.
