Former University of Alabama Football player Christopher Sign, who became a reporter, was found dead on Saturday morning in what is being investigated as a suicide, AL.com reported.
At 8:13 a.m. Saturday, the Hoover 911 center received a call of a person down at a residence on Scout Trace. Hoover police and fire personnel arrived to find the 45-year-old Sign dead.
Hoover police Lt. Keith Czeskleba said the death is being investigated as a suicide…
While a reporter and morning anchor at ABC affiliate KNXV-TV in Phoenix, Sign broke the story of the June 2016 secret tarmac meeting between former President Bill Clinton and then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
Sign also authored a book on the meeting, titled “Secret on the Tarmac,” which he was promoting on “Fox & Friends” in February when he said that breaking the story led to him and his family receiving death threats.
“We knew something had occurred that was a bit unusual. It was a planned meeting. It was not a coincidence,” he said of the meeting.
“[Secret on the Tarmac] details everything that they don’t want you to know and everything they think you forgot, but Bill Clinton was on that plane for 20 minutes and it wasn’t just about golf, grandkids, and Brexit. There’s so much that doesn’t add up,” he said.
“He then sat and waited in his car with the motorcade, her airstairs come down, most of her staff gets off, he then gets on as the Secret Service and FBI are figuring out ‘How in the world are we supposed to handle this? What are we supposed to do?’” he said.
“As journalists, you have to ask yourself, why are people not delving into this? Why are we not looking into what exactly happened?” he said.
He said that his family had received death threats after breaking the story.

“My family received significant death threats shortly after breaking this story, credit cards hacked,” he said. “My children, we have code words, we have secret code words that they know what to do.”
Sinclair Broadcast Group Vice President and General Manager Eric S. Land offered his condolences on the passing of Sign.
“Our deepest sympathy is shared with Chris’s loving family and close friends,” he said.
“We have lost a revered colleague whose indelible imprint will serve forever as a hallmark of decency, honesty and journalist integrity. We can only hope to carry on Chris’s legacy. May his memory be for blessing,” he said.
His colleagues at ABC in Birmingham penned a beautiful tribute to sign to celebrate his life.
To know Chris, was to love Chris.
He left for Phoenix where he spent the next 13 years as a reporter and anchor, but the opportunity to rejoin ABC 33/40 as a weeknight anchor in 2017 was too good of an opportunity for him and his family to pass up.
What most people don’t know is Chris turned down an opportunity to work for one of the national networks to come to ABC 33/40, and he made that decision because of his family.
That decision put him in a place where he could see his boys off to school in the mornings, watch them play baseball in the evenings, and take them fishing on the weekends.
