hite House press secretary Jen Psaki is standing up for her boss, defending President Biden’s decision not to release visitor logs from his many trips home to Delaware in the past year.
Biden has reportedly spent close to a third of his first year in office at his homes in Delaware.
“The president goes to Delaware because it’s his home,” Psaki said Tuesday. “It’s also where his son and his former wife are buried, and it’s a place that is obviously close to his heart. A lot of presidents go visit their home when they are president.”
She also said: “We also have gone a step further than the prior administration and many administrations in releasing visitor logs of people who visit the White House and will continue to do that.”
Over the course of his first year in the White House, Biden logged 99 days in Delaware, according to the calculations of the Associated Press.
Many of those days are the result of Biden’s decision to spend half of his weekends in his home state – both at his home in Wilmington and his family house in Rehoboth Beach.
The president frequently takes phone calls from Wilmington and has taken political visitors there, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Joe Manchin.
Biden’s frequent returns home mirror his schedule during his vice presidency, when he spent most weekends in his home state as well.
