() As infighting Democrat factions bicker back and forth in an attempt to pass some version of President Joe Biden’s multitrillion-dollar “Build Back Better” plan, a new survey finds that a majority of Americans aren’t really keen about the legislation in the first place.

In fact, most believe the bill harms them rather than helps them, which could be a reflection of an ineffectual marketing campaign by the White House and Democrat leaders. And that also includes the president’s $1.5 trillion infrastructure measure, which was actually negotiated in a bipartisan manner.

According to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll released on Sunday, public support for President Joe Biden’s bills to increase spending on infrastructure and social programs has faded.
The survey found that 32% of Americans think that the spending bills would hurt people like them if they became law, while 25% said they believe the bills would help them. Almost two-thirds (64%) of Republicans think the bills would hurt people like them, and 29% of independents feel the same. Despite being the major framework of Biden’s presidency, fewer than half of Democrats (47%) believe the two bills would help them.
Earlier polling from other outlets indicates similarly lukewarm (at best) enthusiasm for the two massive spending bills.
“A CBS News poll from earlier this month found that 36% of respondents said it would help them and their family versus 33% who said it would hurt their loved ones,” The Blaze noted further.
In addition, the poll found that nearly eight-in-10 (79%) respondents said that the current levels of inflation have been caused by current manufacturing and supply chain issues, while 66% said they are blaming Biden administration policies.
“And when asked about potential causes of inflation right now, two-thirds cited U.S. government policy,” CBS News reported.
Only 37% said they thought that Biden and the Democrat congressional majority are truly focused on issues they most care about, The Blaze noted.
Additional recent polling also shows that Biden’s popularity, even among Democrats, is tanking. An NBC News survey released over the weekend found the president’s approval rating has plunged to just 42%, and what’s more, an astounding 71% of respondents said they believe the country is on the wrong track — including 48% of Democrats.
Here are some key findings:
- “What’s more, the survey finds that 7 in 10 adults, including almost half of Democrats, believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction, as well as nearly 60 percent who view Biden’s stewardship of the economy negatively just nine months into his presidency.”
- “… the GOP enjoys a significant enthusiasm advantage at this point in the election cycle, with 69 percent of Republicans expressing a high level of interest about the midterms (on a 1-to-10 scale), versus 58 percent of Democrats who hold the same level of interest.”
- “When asked which party better handles particular issues, Republicans hold double-digit advantages on border security (by 27 points), inflation (24 points), crime (22 points), national security (21 points), the economy (18 points) and being effective and getting things done (13 points).”
“We have a brand new NBC News poll out this morning still with some scary news for the Democrats. The overarching message is that Americans have lost their optimism for the country,” NBC News’ “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd said on Sunday.
“At least they have right now. Just 22% of adults say we’re headed in the right direction. A shocking 71% say we’re on the wrong track and that includes a near majority of Democrats who are saying that. President Biden’s approval rating stands at a dismal 4% versus 54% who disapprove,” he added.
“Two months ago President Biden was in positive territory. What’s pulling down the president’s numbers? Look at this set of numbers, just 37% say he has the ability to handle a crisis versus a majority who say he does not. 37% also say he’s competent and effective as president. 50% disagree with that description. What’s more, Republicans, believe it or not, have double-digit leads in dealing with border security, inflation,” Todd continued.
