Poll Finds Most Americans Want Fauci to Resign

(Jonathan Davis) A new survey finds that Dr. Anthony Fauci, chief medical adviser to the Biden administration and head of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, is quickly falling out of favor with Americans.

“According to a Hill-HarrisX poll released on Thursday, a majority of registered voters, by 52 percent, believe that Dr. Anthony Fauci should resign, while 48 percent believe he should not,” TownHall.com reported.

“This latest poll saw an increase in overall voters, Republicans, Democrats, and Independents who want the head of the [NIAID] to resign from when the question was asked in June. At that time, 42 percent answered Fauci should resign,” the outlet continued.

The Hill adds that even support among Democrats for Fauci to step down has risen by double digits:

Thirty-two percent of Democrats said Fauci should resign, a 12 percentage point increase since the June survey, while 68 percent said he should not.

The number of Republicans saying Fauci should resign increased 9 percentage points in that same period, up to 75 percent in the latest survey. Twenty-five percent said he should not resign.

Meanwhile, 47 percent of independents said he should resign, also a 9 percentage point increase from June, while 53 percent said he should not. 

The poll comes as Fauci remains a polarizing figure among partisans.

Fauci has made headlines quite a bit in recent weeks and not for the right reasons.

Most recently, Fauci was blasted by Democrats and Republicans who demanded answers after a watchdog group reported his agency funded highly controversial research using beagle puppies.

“…Fauci has been condemned for using taxpayers’ money to fund animal experiments, including one which saw beagles trapped in cages so flies could eat them, and another where they were ‘debarked’ before being pumped with drugs and killed,” the Daily Mail noted earlier this month.

“One of the most disturbing incidents funded by Fauci’s National Institutes of Allergies and Infectious Diseases involved $375,000 given to a Tunisian research lab,” the outlet continued.

Two dozen lawmakers led by South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace sent Fauci a letter demanding answers for experiments they called “cruel” and a “reprehensible misuse of taxpayer funds.”

“According to documents obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request by taxpayer watchdog group White Coat Waste Project, and subsequent media coverage, from October 2018 until February 2019, NIAID spent $1.86 million in taxpayer funds on drug tests involving 44 beagle puppies,” the letter said.

“While documents state that the ostensible purpose of this study was to ‘provide data of suitable quality and integrity to support application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory agencies,’ the FDA itself has recently stated that it ‘does not mandate that human drugs be studied in dogs,’” it said.

The letter demanded answers to these questions:

  • How many drug tests involving dogs have been funded by NIAID since January 2018? How much taxpayer money has been spent on this testing?
  • Since the Food and Drug Administration has clearly stated that it does not require dog testing for new drugs, why has NIAID continued to commission testing on dogs?
  • What has NIAID done to explore the use of non-canine and non-animal alternatives to meet FDA data requirements?
  • Has NIAID ever made any dogs available for adoption after the conclusion of an experiment or testing? If so, how many? if so, why not?
  • Why has NIAID contracted for cordectomies when they appear to be scientifically and medically unnecessary? What is the average cost for each cordectomy performed?

Fauci has also been blasted for allegedly lying about funding gain of function research at a Chinese lab in Wuhan believed by some to be where the COVID-19 pandemic began after the virus escaped.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., notably, has consistently accused Fauci of lying to Congress about the funding.
