Plans are underway in Maine to build a patriotic and educational destination known as the Flagpole of Freedom Park, which will feature nine miles of “Remembrance Walls” with the names of all 24 million U.S. veterans since the American Revolution as well as the world’s largest flag pole.
“[N]ow is a critical moment to remember that first and foremost, we are all simply Americans, and that the history and patriotism that embodies our American Flag is something we should preserve without controversy,” the park’s team wrote in a Memorial Day press release.
The land for the park was donated by the founder of the nonprofit Wreaths Across America, which coordinates weath-laying ceremonies to honor veterans.
The group said it hopes the Flagpole of Freedom Park “will become the most patriotic place in the country.”
The world’s tallest flagpole will be a building reaching 1,776 above sea level, featuring observation desks, museums, theaters, convention areas and retail space, the organization stated.
The flag will be able to recoil automatically in response to high wind speeds and pay itself out when the wind speeds decrease.
“This Flag will be the first flag the sun will touch in the Continental US,” the group added.
In addition to the miles of walls honoring veterans, the Flagpole of Freedom Park plans on also building a “Villiage of Old Glory” where every day “will feel like the 4th of July” with sky shows, patriotic performances and a daily patriotic parade.
The park says it will also feature six “Halls of History,” or interactive, immersive museums for “Roots of America, Revolutionary War, The Civil War, WWI and II, Korea and Vietnam, and the War on Terror (Afghan, Iraq, and Kuwait Conflicts).”
The group is still seeking “Park Founders,” but current sponsors listed on their website include Parlatore Law Group, which represents former President Donald Trump, and businesses such as Digital History Studios and Triple Impact Connections.
