“When you say why don’t we accept theirs, why don’t they accept ours?” Pelosi said, referring to the House’s updated $2.2 trillion HEROES Act, during the interview on Tuesday.
Blitzer pointed out that California Rep. Ro Khanna, a progressive House Democratic, has encouraged Pelosi to take the $1.8 trillion offer, calling it “significant and more than twice the Obama stimulus.”
He also said on Twitter that Democrats in Congress should not wait until February for another stimulus package.
“What I say to you is I don’t know why you’re always an apologist, and many of your colleagues, apologists for the Republican position,” Pelosi told Blitzer. “Ro Khanna, that’s nice – that isn’t what we’re going to do, and nobody is waiting until February. I want this very much now because people need help now but it’s no use giving them a false thing just because the president wants to put a check with his name on it in the mail.”
Pelosi also said Khanna is “lovely” but not negotiating this situation.
“They have no idea of the particulars,” she continued about detractors. “They have no idea of what the language is here. I didn’t come over here to have you – so you’re the apologist for the Obama – excuse me. God forbid. Thank God for Barack Obama.”
Later in the interview, Pelosi thanked Blitzer for his “sensitivity for our constituents’ needs.”
In response, he said, “I am sensitive to them because I see them on the streets begging for food, begging for money.”
Pelosi replied: “Have you fed them? We feed them.”
