(Gabriel Keane) “But I think it’s appropriate to say that um, the Republican Party is vastly diminished in numbers … and the Trump wing of the party is the bulk of the party, but it makes up a significant minority of the American people.”

During a press conference following Monday’s press conference in Brussels, Belgium, President Joe Biden incorrectly claimed that “the Trump wing” of the Republican party is “the bulk of the party, but it makes up a significant minority of the American people.” In reality, President Donald Trump received more votes than any other Republican candidate in American history.
“And so I uh, you know i don’t to get into the stati- , into the statistics, because you know that old phrase is [ former British Prime Minster Benjamin] Disraeli’s, ‘There’s three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics,’” Biden said Monday. “But I think it’s appropriate to say that um, the Republican Party is vastly diminished in numbers, the leadership of the Republican Party is fractured, and the Trump wing of the party is the bulk of the party, but it makes up a significant minority of the American people.”
In actuality, Donald Trump cemented himself as the most popular Republican candidate of all time in the 2020 presidential election, receiving over 74 million votes. That total surpassed not just every previous Republican candidate, but every Democrat prior to 2020 as well. It remains unclear what statistics Biden was referencing about the Republican Party being “vastly diminished in numbers” either, given Trump’s prodigious vote totals and the Republican majority on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Biden also used the NATO press conference to pontificate about domestic vaccinations:
President Joe Biden used a press conference following Monday’s NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium to loudly complain about unvaccinated Americans, and demand that all Americans immediately take one of the four controversial COVID-19 vaccines.
“Six hundred thousand lost lives because of COVID-19 in America,” Biden said Monday. “My heart goes out to all those who’ve lost a loved one. I know that black hole that seems to consume you, that fills up your chest when you lose someone that’s close to you, that you adored. That’s why I continue to say to America, if you’ve not been vaccinated, get vaccinated.”
