(Steve Straub) LinkedIn which is owned by Microsoft just bowed to the Chinese Communist Party and has started deleting the profiles of journalists that the CCP does not like.

LinkedIn is one of the only large American social media platforms to agree to the Chinese government's demands to censor content, and is tasking its own employees with restricting what users in China can see.https://t.co/WvAV33mZFy

Axios reporter Bethany Allen-Ebrahimian broke the news to Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo saying “When LinkedIn first began its China operations in 2014, they promised transparency in their China operations and they also admitted back then, this was 7 years ago that they would be upholding local law meaning censoring but the problem is that the Chinese government has become more and more and more strict.”
“They have decided to enforce their censorship with an ever widening brush and now they are forcing companies like Zoom, like LinkedIn that has significant China operations to censor more profiles.”
“And what we need to see in the U.S. greater awareness of this and greater congressional pushback, and greater efforts by the Biden administration to prevent this because what we have here is an imbalance.”
So now LinkedIn is joining other American companies and institutions like the NBA that grovels before the Chinese communists and will do whatever they say to keep the stream of cash coming.
Here’s more from the China Digital Times:
“While this is not the first time LinkedIn has censored profiles in China, these recent notifications point to the company’s increasing potential to export China’s censorship demands beyond the Great Firewall. Allen-Ebrahimian drew attention to the fact that correspondence from LinkedIn clearly placed the onus on her to make her content available on the Chinese platform: “[…] the decision whether to update your profile is yours,” the message stated.”
“As this would force her to delete the sensitive content on her own end, as opposed to merely having it removed from the Chinese version, she concluded, “This goes beyond China’s model of ‘internet sovereignty’ and imposes China’s censorship extraterritorially.” LinkedIn’s suggestions to self-censor resemble censorship messages from Weibo, which recommend that users “refrain from posting or forwarding similarly sensitive content…to avoid disruptions to the normal functioning of [their] account.”
Read this thread. Especially important is how @BethanyAllenEbr points out LinkedIn’s solution is to have her delete the things the CCP would want her to censor from her own profile, which would also censor them everywhere, not just in China. https://t.co/5NWe87IJqR
