The city of Charlottesville have officially removed their Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea statues.
The decision to take down the statues come just hours after the city decided to take down Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson’s statue.
Initially the Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea statues were not on schedule to be taken down but after an emergency meeting from the Charlottesville city council they decided to take them down too.
According to members of the city council the Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea statue was removed due to ancestors of Sacagawea stating that the statue brought their family shame. because it depicts her crouching behind Lewis and Clark.

Following a special emergency city council meeting called to order at 12 p.m. Saturday, Charlottesville City Council voted unanimously to remove the Lewis, Clark, and Sacagawea statue on West Main Street.
These plans came to fruition shortly after Charlottesville’s statues of Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson were removed from their pedestals in public parks.
City Council approved setting aside $1 million for the relocate and or covering of these two statues, as well as the statue of Lewis & Clark and Sacajawea.
“The project follows the successful removals of the statues of two Confederate Generals this morning,” City Spokesperson Brian Wheeler said in an email update to the media. “The completion of that work ahead of schedule has allowed the removal of the third statue, one which City Council has previous

Lee and Jackson had no connection to Charlottesville. But Lewis and Clark were locals: Clark's birthplace is just east of town, Lewis's birthplace is a few miles west of town. Charlottesville is devouring her own. https://t.co/LxsCpXAxrR

The New York Post got the scoop too:
The city of Charlottesville, Va. followed up its removal of two controversial Confederate statues Saturday with the lightning-fast toppling of a third local landmark: a monumental tribute to explorers Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and Sacagawea.
In an emergency meeting called with 20 minutes’ notice, the Charlottesville City Council voted unanimously to cancel another piece of public art targeted by left-wing activists.
“I feel that it should just be melted down,” Rose Ann Abrahamson, a Sacagawea descendant, said during the council meeting, The Daily Progress reported. “I feel that it’s entirely offensive and it should be obliterated.”
Within minutes, a city work crew — the same group that had dismantled equestrian statues of Gens. Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson earlier Saturday — arrived with ropes, a crane, and pry bars to wrench the artwork off the plinth where it had stood on Charlottesville’s West Main Street since 1919.
President Thomas Jefferson sent out Lewis and Clark on an expedition after the Louisiana Purchase.
Lewis and Clark ended up meeting Native American Sacagawea who helped serve as a guide for them in the unknown terrain.
The recent statue that was torn down in Charlottesville’s Virginia depicted Lewis who was born in Charlottesville, Clark standing next to him and Sacagawea couching down as if she was tracking.
It’s a shame that even though Charlottesville is Lewis’ hometown, it still doesn’t protect him from being cancelled.
