(Calvin Freiburger) Iconoclastic rapper Kanye West again assailed abortion last week, telling rapper Noreaga and DJ “EFN” during a wide-ranging podcast that the practice is a racial “genocide.”

West appeared on the November 4 edition of the podcast Drink Champs, during which he declared that black Americans are “still inside of our genocide,” because “50 of all black deaths a year is abortion. Plan B was created by Margaret Sanger with the KKK for black population control.”
Elsewhere in the discussion, West referenced other points of contrast between himself and the entertainment industry, including that metaphorically he has “still got a red hat on today” in support of former President Donald Trump, and that the “feminist” #MeToo movement (a selective revolt against alleged sexual predators in certain industries who left-wing activists presented as intrinsic to American “patriarchy” rather than of specific leftist subcultures) “is 1984 mind control.”
As extensively detailed by pro-life activists over the years, Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger was a member of the American Eugenics Society who wrote that the “campaign for birth control is […] practically identical in ideal with the final aim of eugenics,” and admitted in her autobiography that in 1926 she spoke to the “women’s branch of the Ku Klux Klan,” through which she said she “accomplished my purpose” by inspiring a “dozen invitations to speak to similar groups.”
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention’s (CDC’s) most recent data, 117,626 black babies were aborted surgically in 2018, more than a third of overall abortions that year, and more than a third the total number of born black Americans (341,408) who died in 2018. Additionally, federal abortion statistics are hindered by voluntary reporting and variable standards among the states, meaning the actual number is likely significantly higher.
West, who unsuccessfully ran for president in a handful of states last year, has undergone a spiritual and ideological transition in recent years, starting with his 2018 praise of Trump and viewing of videos by philosopher Jordan Peterson and continuing with his conversion to Christianity the following year.
West has repeatedly spoken out against abortion and Plan B in the past, and criticized the idea that blacks and Democrats should be natural allies. While West’s public comments have indicated some confusion on the issue’s legal dimensions — during a campaign stop he said abortion “should always be legal” because the “law is not by God anyway,” and abortion should instead be discouraged by paying women to choose life — the issue is a deeply personal one to him.
