This post is a conceptual exploration of consciousness as it relates to reincarnation and setting goals in our temporal lives.
Time and Space.
The Spiritual Sector and it’s Material Counterpart
Time is has been a fundamental fascination of humanity for as long as the accessible cultural records will indicate. We have developed various and sundry calendars over history in attempts to attenuate ourselves to our environmental changes. (see: Conscious Calendars) Understanding time in the manner in which we do provides us with a comprehensive outline for our singular deadline. J.R.R Tolken said this of time in his work “The Hobbit”
“This thing all things devours:Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.”
The previous excerpt from Tolken exemplifies very well the manner in which we currently view time as a culture, confining and destructive. When we look at time what most of us see is a finite amount of it and set their goals to accommodate to this temporal urgency. Time represents for us an ultimatum for achievement, ESPECIALLY when we look at this iteration a our only opportunity to do whatever it is that we intend to do. This scarcity concept is utilized ubiquitously throughout our culture and not only pertaining to time. We are told that we have a deficit of food, housing, energy, water, but is this actually TRUE? No. Absolutely not. We have an ABUNDANCE of food, have we all not seen the dumpsters behind restaurants FULL of food, or even worked in restaurants and thrown meal after uneaten meal away. Plants are CONSTANTLY facilitating the interaction between hydrocarbons and oxygen and excreting water. WE ARE COMPOSED ENTIRELY OF ENERGY. We have a myriad of devices that effectively decontaminate and desalinate water for consumption. How can we possibly believe that we don’t have enough of everything. WE DO.
I would like to suggest an alternative to temporal scarcity or as I would like to call it more aggressively perhaps, Iterational Enslavement. First let’s take the age old phrase “Time is of the essence” and deconstruct it. When I initially heard this phrase as a child I made the assumption that this entailed that time held precedent to everything else, that time is truly all that we have and it is a constant. This brings up a few key issues with the modern conception of time. First of all time is OF the essence, yes, however it is NOT THE essence. It’s similar to the concept of “god being love but love not being god”, love is an integral facet in the “god” experience however does not encompass all that it is to be “god”. Time as I have stated in previous pages is experienced idiosyncratically by each unit of perspective, from the atom all the way to the human and beyond. On an experiential basis you are always “creating” your own frame of time. This concept completely rules out the idea of time being truly constant. (see:You and I and Experiencing experience)
To transition forward from the individualized time frame, we are all integral facets in the composition of the wholistic universe. Consciously we are not relegated to a singular body. That is to say that when our bodes die our minds or souls do not die with them and in essence our bodies don’t really die either, they simply are recycled into another ecosystem. Death is not an ultimatum but a transition into a new state of consciousness, or as some would refer to it reincarnation. Many will state that the principle of reincarnation is preposterous and will dismiss it immediately. The most common argument that I have heard against it is “If we’ve already lived before this why don’t we remember it?”. The answer is very simple, I will provide an example to make this concept a little more associatable. Let’s use prosthetic limps as the base. When a person loses a limb and decides to be installed with a prosthetic counterpart it takes them time to adjust themselves to the new limb. Months, even years can go by before this person fully masters the new appendage even though they already knew how to use the previous limb. This can be readily applied to the idea of reincarnation. You gained all of this experience previously with you “appendage” or body and now that it has been replaced with a new operating system (new body or prosthetic) the consciousness must find new ways to express itself with respect to the new receptacle.
For many, the strivance for and achievement of their goals, regardless of how temporarily gratifying it can be, does not lead to extended joy in their lives. This on a fundamental level is because for many these goals are looked at as ultimatums, with a conclusive ending and beginning. I will propose an alternative to this perspective.
To begin, goals in this life are VERY important in the existential tool building process. When you set a goal, no matter how minuscule, you are providing yourself with purpose for your actions until this goal is accomplished. This sequence can be termed as “Goal oriented Self organization”. In more “mundane” goals such as feeding oneself, the satisfaction of the action is ephemeral and the process must be repeated in order to again obtain the satisfaction of feeding ones self. In larger goals such as let’s say becoming a successful businessman the process is much longer and the satisfaction is much greater and more prolonged, however, if one looks at that as the end of feasible growth for themselves they will end up growing restless and dissatisfied quickly. Both of these cycles have a conclusive end and beginning and though providing purpose and satisfaction temporarily did not satisfy the beings greater desire for happiness.
I personally advocate setting within ones experience, trans-life goals. That is to say goals that surpass your individual lifetime. When we look at life i think it is important to view ourselves as a part of a great procession of awareness and attenuate our actions to accommodate to the much larger existential repercussions that they have. In each physical iteration we are given an opportunity to become more AWARE of what it is to be and our role in the greater beingness. When you are born into this world you’re “soul” isn’t just pulled anew from some cosmic ether. That would directly oppose the very apparent energy conservation principle of the universe. You are a mind, one that has always been and will always be, choosing to experience physical reality in this capacity in order to come to a greater understanding of how it works. Think of the dynamic of the material universe as a field test of a spiritual entity, or even as the 7 day and 6 night progression of the Mayan Long Count Calendar. During the days the universe develops new skills that in the night it tests. Think of our bodies as willing receptacles of conscious “programs” that through experiencing we are refining for the “cosmic mind”. When we realize that our goal is, instead of being what can be loosely defined as successful, to truly choose the manner in which we want to evolve consciously into every moment up to every lifetime to further understand the self. This goal will both never cease coming to fruition and will never fully come to fruition. It’s a beautiful paradox, however it is the truth. You are always both the master of and mastering yourself, from a sequence of moments to a sequence of lifetimes.
To conclude this segment:
You have more than just this iteration of self to express what it is that you will optimally express as a “mind” or “soul”. Every moment that you have is an opportunity to come to a greater awareness of what you are. Your life is a “field test” and you are the only one who decides how successful it is. You will have more lives and are directly responsible for how they will come to progress and grow. Remember the Fibonacci modality of evolution. “The initial 1 creates a reflection of itself, the reflection looks back to the initial 1 and decides to incorporate it into it’s perspective and evolves into the 2…” KNOW THYSELF.
