The Prison industrial complex has run rampant to the point of being equivalent to some of the most draconian and oppressive systems on Earth. If everyone spent even one day as an inmate our complacency to these systems would evaporate.
Of course this is all by design, and while many think slavery was abolished during of the Civil War, it was actually legalized.
We are conditioned to think that once someone is labeled a criminal, any suffering they endure is punishment for their crime. But how can we hope to stop harm and violence when we use harm and violence as a form of punishment? The philosophy of moral relativism, where we seek to harm another for the harm they have incurred on us (revenge) is prolific. Yet many are realizing that this is immoral and ineffective. Over the past 50 years prison populations have sky rocketed with even more people being labeled criminals for breach of policy.
The following article is a ray of hope, for it reveals how inhumane our systems of ‘justice’ have become. And until the average Joe is made aware of these acts of violence, no change will be effected. Complacency and ignorance is what keeps these institutions going, as such, only sharing the truth and uniting for change will bring back true justice.
