House Administration Committee ranking member Rodney Davis wrote a letter to Pelosi requesting House offices under her control stop obstructing the Republicans probe.
“The events of January 6, 2021, exposed serious security vulnerabilities at the Capitol Complex,” Davis, a Republican from Illinois said in the letter. “Unfortunately, over the past twelve months, House Democrats have been more interested in exploiting the events of January 6th for political purposes than in conducting basic oversight of the security vulnerabilities exposed that day.”
“As Speaker of the House, you are the most senior elected official in the House of Representatives, and therefore ultimately responsible for all House operations, not just those of your party,” Davis wrote.
Davis concluded his letter by accusing Democrats of only displaying a “superficial interest in examining the security vulnerabilities highlighted by January 6” and obstructing “Republican access to House records,” yet have held “witnesses in criminal contempt of Congress for raising genuine questions of legal privilege.”
“This double standard only adds to the evidence that Democrats are weaponizing events of January 6th against their political adversaries,” Davis wrote. “If you are truly interested in working with Republicans to improve the Capitol security posture, I demand that you direct all House officers immediately to stop obstructing our oversight.”
“Davis said GOP lawmakers began investigating the security vulnerabilities of the Capitol immediately after last year’s riot, requesting records from the acting chief of the U.S. Capitol Police, the House sergeant-at-arms, and the House chief administrative officer,” Fox News reported.
“GOP lawmakers are most interested in the communications the House sergeant-at-arms and the House chief administrative officer had with Pelosi in the days leading up to and during the riot, hoping those emails, phone calls, and text messages could shed light on the directions Pelosi gave that could have impacted security at the Capitol,” Fox News added.
“But Davis said only the USCP has so far cooperated with the request, pointing out that the House sergeant-at-arms and House chief administrative officer are the two House officers who report directly to Pelosi and have yet to produce records related to the Jan. 6 riot,” the report added.
Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan says the Democrats committee investigating the incident at the U.S. Capitol on January 6 is a “complete assault on Americans’ liberty.”
Jordan, who has called for an investigation into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over her role that day, went off when discussing the committee approving a criminal contempt report to hold Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress.
“There’s been subpoenas issued to 11 individuals, 11 American citizens who asked the government permission on an application to hold the Trump rally,” Jordan said.
“The government granted it and now the January 6 committee petitions them to ask them questions about exercising their First Amendment right to assemble,” he added.
“And why would they subpoena me? I didn’t do anything wrong — I talked to the president,” Jordan told the Washington Post. “I talk to the president all the time. I just think that’s — you know where I’m at on this commission — this is all about going after President Trump. That seems obvious.”
“This is scary where they want to go and what they’re doing to Americans’ constitutional rights. And finally, I would ask the fundamental question, how would you expect witnesses to participate when you wouldn’t let Republicans participate in the committee? How can you do that? We know what this is about, it’s plain and simple, this is about they’ve got nothing else to talk about.”
Back in July, Jordan called for an investigation into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik also called for “radical authoritarian” Pelosi to be fired after the latest stunt from Democrats.
Pelosi rejected the appointments of Republican Reps. Jim Jordan and Jim Banks to the January 6 Commission.
