In my research into the ancient mysteries of our world, I have come across an interesting connection that I would like to share with you between the ancient Greek god Hercules, and the current wizard prince of the science fiction best-selling books and movies known as Harry Potter.
The stories of both Hercules and Harry Potter began to match one another when you start to compare them side by side. From their names, to their mythical powers, lightning bolts, to their battles with dark forces, we began to come to the revelation that all JK Rowling has done with her story of Harry Potter is just base him on a more modern version of Hercules.
These articles that I write are done for fun and intended to help stir up your imagination so you can find your own hidden clues, symbols, and Gods that are symbolized in modern stories like that of Harry Potter which is really just a modern story about Heri-cules. This esoteric connection will become quite obvious to those of you with an eye to see in the brief information that I present below.
BOTH HARRY POTTER AND HERCULES ARE HALF-BLOODS
Hercules is considered a half-blood because he was the son of his immortal father Zeus (Jupiter) and a normal human mortal mother, Hera (Venus) making him mortal like his mother.
Harry Potter’s family were once known as pure bloods until like the father of Hercules had done, Harry’s father married Muggle-born witch Lily Evans. Their son Harry was half-blood just like it is told in the story of Hercules.
However, both the half-bloods of Heri-cules and Harry Potter are given twelve labors or tests they must pass in order to win their immortality.
BOTH HARRY AND HERCULES WERE SYMBOLIZED BY THE LION OF JUDAH
Both Harry and Hercules were trained in astronomy. In the ancient story of one of the twelve labors of Hercules, he is tasked to slay a gigantic fierce beast named Nemean lion (/nɪˈmiːən/; Greek: Νεμέος λέων Neméos léōn; Latin: Leo Nemaeus) who had impenetrable skin and lived in a cave in the land of Nemea. Nemean later became Leo the lion.
Harry’s birth chart was also very prophetic and had caused the evil Voldemort to pursue and try to kill him because he was the child of prophecy. Harry Potter’s birth chart happened to be in the constellation of Leo, AKA the Lion. At school, Harry became a member of the House of Gryffindor
In Greek mythology, the centaur (Ken-taur or Khan-taur) was a mythological creature whose upper torso is that of a man and the body of a horse. Hercules had friends who were centaurs such as Chiron, and also foes. One of Hercules’ labours was to kill a famous centaur who was his foe named Nessus (Ancient Greek: Νέσσος) to pay off the murder of his family. However, in the end, the centaur’s poison tainted blood kills Heracles.
Like Hercules, Harry Potter also had a centaur friend named Firenze. He met with centaurs in the Forbidden Forest. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry and his friends had to be saved by the giant, Gawp, to avoid being trampled by centaurs.
HARRY POTTER’S STONE IS ALMOST THE SAME AS THE STONE OF HERCULES
There is also the similarities of the first novel by JK Rowlings called “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” and the fact that the name of Hercules is given to a stone which is called a magnet.
In Harry Potter, the Dark Lord Voldemort seeks to gain immortality through the power of the Philosopher’s Stone which is said to be a substance known as the Elixir of Life that bestows everlasting life for those that possess it. The Stone is later destroyed in order to prevent unworthy individuals from gaining possession of it.
Hercules was the son of the immortal Zeus (Jupiter) and normal human mortal mother in normal manner thus making him mortal like his mother. Zeus made her a promise to his mother that Hercules should become immortal upon the completion of 12 great works for Eurysthcus. In one of the stories, Hercules finally becomes immortal when he drank milk (Elixir of Life) at birth from the Queen of the gods, Hera.
According to Pausanias, Hercules was represented under the image of a rough stone at Hyettos, where the sick came to be healed in a temple. The image of Hercules was not artistically formed, but was a rude stone, according to ancient custom, a ferruginous batilien stone, a thunder-stone. And afterwards in the worship of Hercules, the rude stone, as a proper characteristic, was not wholly neglected. “There is yet,” says Schweigger, “a Hermes statue of Hercules wrought out of a touch-stone; while Pliny observes the Lydian stone, or touch-stone, was confounded with the Herculean stone.”(1)
BOTH HARRY POTTER AND HERCULES BATTLE DARK SERPENT TYPE BEINGS
There is also the connections of Hercules doing battle with a dark serpent type goddess who seeks to kill him. There is also the battle of Harry Potter with the serpent type dark wizard Lord Voldemort who attempted to kill him as well.
Lord Voldermort is the sole heir in the House of Slytherin who were known as a pure-blood family with several notable members. The name Slytherin obviously refers to their serpent type blood. In this name we find the words “sly,” meaning to have or show a cunning and deceitful nature. The name ‘therin’ is similar to thera and hera who in Hercules is the evil serpent goddess. This connection is confirmed by the Serpent of Slytherin who was a female basilisk who resided inside the Chamber of Secrets at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry had to battle the basilisk that petrified anyone who looked upon it with a single gaze just like Medusa.
In the Hercules like plot of Harry Potter, Lord Voldermort tries to kill Harry, but he survives the attack with only a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead. Harry then becomes a savior to everyone since he ended the serpent like Voldemort’s reign of terror, and thus becomes a living legend in the wizarding world just like Hercules had done thousands of years before.
In the ancient Roman mythology of Hercules, he does battle with many dark Gods, and creatures. In Rome, he kills Cacus, the fire-breathing giant and the son of Vulcan after terrorizing the Palatine Hill before the founding of Rome. Hercules also does battle with black and dark Hydra who was a monstrous serpent (worm). Its nine heads attacked with venom in which the middle head was immortal and could not be killed. Hercules ends up successfully killing Hydra. Of course like Harry Potter, Hercules is also wounded in this vicious battle. But like Harry, he becomes one of the most famous Gods of the ancient world.
BOTH HARRY POTTER AND HERCULES HAVE SIMILAR NAMES
One final connection I would like to note are the very similar names of Hercules (Heri-cules) and Harry Potter. The divine God Hercules of the ancient Greeks was the son of Zeus (Jupiter) and the mortal Alcmene. His father Zeus was the mythical embodiment of the planet Jupiter and in ancient history, the children of Jupiter were also known as the sovereign race of Heri. This name Heri is just another name for the children of Jupiter who have been known throughout history as the Cretans, Minoans, Phoenicians, Judeans and Jews just to name a few.
Their priests were known as magicians and wizards. The were known as the Telchines, Curetes , Priests of Pan and Cybele or many other various names. Strabo had written, that these are the names of the various groups known as the Curetes (Kuretes), Corybantes, Dactyls, Cabiri, and Telchines which are names that are often used interchangeably with one another. Plutarch had said, “that according to a divine nature and justice, the souls of virtuous men are advanced to the rank of daemons; and that from demons, if they are properly purified, they are exalted into gods, not by any political institution, but according to right reason.”
33rd degree Scottish Rite Freemason Albert Pike had written this about the children of Hari when he explains the word Heri in Morals and Dogma;
“The word HERI, in Sanscrit, means Shepherd, as well as Saviour. CRISHNA is called Heri, as JESUS called Himself the Good Shepherd.
The Egyptian Deity called by the Greeks “Horus,” was Her-Ra, or Har-oeris, Hor or Har, the Sun. Hari is a Hindu name of the Sun. Ari-al, Ar-es, Ar, Aryaman, Areimonios, the AR meaning Fire or Flame, are of the same kindred. Hermes or Har-mes, (Aram, Remus, Haram, Harameias), was Kadmos, the Divine Light or Wisdom. Mar-kuri, says Movers, is Mar, the Sun.
In a papyrus published by Champollion, this god is styled “Haroeri, Lord of the Solar Spirits, the beneficent eye of the Sun.” Plutarch calls him “Har-pocrates;”
KHURUM, therefore, improperly called Hiram, is KHUR-OM, the same as Her-ra, Her-mes, and Her-acles, the “Heracles Tyrius Invictus,” the personification of Light and the Son, the Mediator, Redeemer, and Saviour. From the Egyptian word Ra came the Coptic Ou_ro, and the Hebrew Au_r, Light. Har-oeri, is Hor or Har, the chief or master.
This name Heri is where we get the current English word heritage, and for example the people in India who follow the Indian God known as Hera-cula who are known as the Heri-Crishna (Hare Krishnas). They are also known as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, or the “Hare Krishna movement.” In the Vedas, Heri (Vishnu) is called the Lord of the Universe; “Thou recoverest the Veda in the water of the ocean of destruction, placing it joyfully in the bosom of an ark fabricated by thee! O Cesava, assuming the body of a fish, be victorious, O Heri, Lord of the Universe!”
