(Amber Crawford) Earlier today, Twitter announced that it’s entered into a $44 billion deal with free speech champion and the world’s richest man, Elon Musk. Twitter shareholders will receive $54.20 per share, and when the deal is complete, the highly-censored platform whose top executives cried when Trump won in 2016 will become a privately held company.

The news comes after several weeks of back-and-forth between Musk and the Twitter board in which board members attempted to prevent him from taking over what many consider to be the most important tool for silencing conservatives in the world.
Shortly after the news broke of Twitter accepted Musk’s buyout deal, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal tweeted,
“Twitter has a purpose and relevance that impacts the entire world. Deeply proud of our teams and inspired by the work that has never been more important.”

Agrawal, of course, is referring to his company’s efforts to quell free speech on the social media platform.
After only six months as CEO, Agrawal’s largely conflicting views with the company’s new owner pose a serious threat to his position with Twitter. Musk is a very vocal proponent of free speech, which Agrawal is openly against. This point of contention is causing many people to interpret Agrawal’s Tweet as a farewell message.
Agrawal has been quoted saying, “Our role is not to be bound by the First Amendment, but our role is to serve a healthy public conversation.” He has also voiced his belief that Twitter should “focus less on thinking about free speech, but thinking about how the times have changed.”
Conservative users on Agrawal’s Tweet have left some hilarious comments in reference to Agrawal’s likely termination at the social media company, including Donald Trump “you’re fired!” memes and comments telling him to remove “CEO” from his Twitter bio.

One user, @matt_kohrs, wrote,
“It kinda sounds like you’re admitting that Elon will be doing the “purposeful” and “relevant” work you couldn’t execute upon. A nice win for Freedom of Speech.”
Another wrote,
“Parag please remove CEO of Twitter from your profile so I can add it to mine”
One Twitter user hilariously commented,
“Have a nice day, maybe Facebook is hiring”
