This time it was about the Los Angeles Lakers deciding not to suspend its star player, LeBron James, after he broke the NBA’s health and safety protocols to attend an event for Lobos 1707 tequila, for which he is an investor.

“The NBA ain’t got the balls to suspend Lebron James. Zero.” He said in an interview with Yahoo Sports.

“The NBA, they ain’t got no chance of suspending Lebron James. If it was a nobody, they would put him in health and safety protocols,” he said. “Ain’t no f–king way LeBron James is going to be sitting out because of health and safety protocols.”

Barkley said that he laughed when he heard the league’s decision to not suspend James, “Lebron James is playing Sunday. Guaaaaranteeed.”

“It’s a violation of the agreed-upon protocols, and, as we have in other comparable instances around the league, it has been addressed with the team,” a spokesman for the NBA said to ESPN on Friday.

According to league protocols, players who fail to comply with rules are subject to warnings, fines or suspensions. Players who repeatedly break the rules could be subject to more severe discipline.

James and the No. 7-seeded Lakers will play the Western Conference’s No. 2-seeded Phoenix Suns in Game 1 of their first-round series Sunday (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC).

Despite being the lower seed, L.A. is riding a six-game winning streak heading into the Suns series, with James back on the court for the past three victories after missing 26 of the Lakers’ 28 games prior to that because of a high right ankle sprain.

James was asked if he was concerned about not being there for his team if he would have been suspended for the playoffs, but he said he put his family first. How his family’s health and safety were better served by him attending a tequila party is unknown.

“Anything I do off the floor is predicated to my family, for the majority — for 99.9% of that,” James said. “So it’s about the health and safety of my family, and that’s what it came down to.

“Me being available to my teammates on the floor is me taking care of my body. Me doing everything I can do to make sure I’m available both mentally, physically and spiritually, as well. But anything of that nature, that’s all family talk.”

When asked by a reporter if he had gotten the vaccine he said, “It’s not a big deal,” with a laugh.

As for Barkley, he has ruffled feathers before with his commentary, particularly when he ranted against Democrats in September of 2020, Fox News reported.

NBA player Charles Barkley indicated that he was tired of Democrats’ inaction, saying Dems only talked with black people when they wanted their votes.

“They’ve been taking black people’s votes – and they only talk to black people every four years.

All of these politicians only talk to black people every four years because they want their vote,” Barkley said in an interview aired Wednesday.

He added that he thought Republicans didn’t talk to black voters and that Democrats did “nothing in the four years in between.”

His Wednesday interview echoed his previous comments about black voters. “Every black person I know has always voted Democratic and, with the exception of a few guys who can play sports, all those people are still poor,” he said during another interview in the summer.

The 56-year-old legend also knocked Trump but was wary of calling him racist. “I’m leery of calling people ‘racist.’

He says some things that can be construed as racist,” Barkley said of Trump’s recent controversies. “Some things he’s said are very wrong and flagrant.”
