The real question is, can the Wim Hof Method reduce the risks or mitigate the symptoms of the Corona virus? Ok, so the epicenter of the Corona virus was in the Wuhan province of China. The virus has affected over 80 countries worldwide. It is important to understand that at this point the virus is less fatal and much less alarming than we originally thought. It is more complicated than a common cold or flu but not to the level of previous high profile outbreaks like SARs or MERs.
People have been looking to the Wim Hof Method, because breathing and cold exposure been proven to improve your immune system. I wouldn’t say that the Wim Hof Method is a cure for COVID-19, but it’s combination of cold therapy and breathing can vastly improve emotional and physical resiliency, enter the Radboud University study

The study aimed to test if the results from the first study done on Wim could be reproduced with a larger group of people (Wim Hof Method practitioners) who volunteered to be injected with an endotoxin to study their innate immune response. The results showed that, like Wim, they were able to control their sympathetic nervous system and immune response. Their anti-inflammatory mediators were ~200% higher, while pro-inflammatory mediators were ~50% lower. This has potentially important implications for “conditions associated with excessive or persistent inflammation, especially autoimmune diseases.” (2014, Knox et. al.)
The method is beneficial because it increases control over auto immune response. This helps fight sickness by inhibiting the production of proteins that cause inflammation as noted in the study. Cold therapy improves circulation, by encouraging blood to surround your organs, which can help ward off various ailments and improve over all health. The Wim Hof Method can also lower blood pressure as we relax, and clear blocked arteries.

There is still a lot that we don’t know about the Coronavirus, as I stated before. Even with the data that we have on the benefits of doing the Wim Hof Method I can’t guarantee it is magically going to cure Coronavirus. What I can share from my research and as a practitioner, is that the Wim Hof method will benefit to strengthen your immune system that can help you combat Coronavirus should you catch it, just as it would in fighting off a cold or flu.
