In February 2021, Dole announced he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer and, in July 2021, was receiving immunotherapy to treat the disease, forgoing chemotherapy due to its negative effect on his body.
In January 2018, President Trump honored war hero, former Republican presidential nominee, and Kansas Sen. Bob Dole at a congressional Gold Medal Ceremony on Wednesday.
Washington Examiner – Trump praised Dole, the only former GOP presidential nominee to enthusiastically endorse his White House bid in 2016, as a “true American hero” and someone every lawmaker should admire during his remarks at the Capitol.
“Bob, that is the legacy you have left our nation, and it will outlive us all,” the president said.
Today, as her father was laid to rest, and emotional Robin Dole shared her father’s farewell letter during his funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral, where mourners gathered to honor the incredible life of the former US Senator from Kansas.
“As I make the final walk on my life’s journey, I do so without fear. Because I know that I will again not be walking alone, I know that God will be walking with me,” read Bob Dole’s daughter.
“I also confess that I’m a bit curious to learn if I am correct in thinking that heaven will look a lot like Kansas.
And to see, like others who have gone before me, if I will still be able to vote in Chicago,” she said to the crowd of highly-partisan politicians, many of whom have been arguing about the stolen election of 2020 since November of last year.
