The president had his Twitter account “permanently” suspended for alleged concern about the “risk of further incitement of violence.” The permanent suspension was announced two days after the January 6 riot.
Twitter will be carrying out a review of the president’s tweets that were purportedly the cause of his suspension. As one source told Becker News, the grounds for his suspension rest on a “very narrow” and “thin” line-of-reasoning:
“We assessed the two Tweets referenced above under our Glorification of Violence policy, which aims to prevent the glorification of violence that could inspire others to replicate violent acts and determined that they were highly likely to encourage and inspire people to replicate the criminal acts that took place at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021,” Twitter claimed.
“As such, our determination is that the two Tweets above are likely to inspire others to replicate the violent acts that took place on January 6, 2021, and that there are multiple indicators that they are being received and understood as encouragement to do so,” Twitter added.
A NY Times report described the behind-the-scenes activity at Twitter in the aftermath of Musk’s buyout.
“Its ‘absolutely insane’ @ Twitter right now in the virtual valves of private slack rooms & employee group texts, according to an internal source,” Talmon Joseph Smith reported on Twitter. “Their take/breakdown just now:
‘I feel like im going to throw up..I rly don’t wanna work for a company that is owned by Elon Musk’…”
“The source at Twitter continued ‘I don’t rly know what I’m supposed to do…oh my god, my phone’s been blowing up…We have a meeting about it at 5pm…the CEO is going to address everyone about it’ (it=elon),” Smith continued.
“’I hate him, why does he even want this?” they asked’… according to Smith, adding, “The employee continued re Elon: 3/“ I feel like he’s this petulant little boy and that he’s doing this to troll…he doesn’t know anything about our policies and what we do…his statement about our algo was fucking insane… ‘Were just gonna let everyone run amok?…nobody knows’.”
Elon Musk said earlier month that he was “very cautious with permanent bans” on Twitter and would prefer a timeout system. This policy statement has direct implications for Donald Trump’s account.
House Republicans on Monday advocated for Trump’s return to Twitter following Musk’s takeover:
Hey, @elonmusk it's a great week to free @realDonaldTrump.
— House Republicans (@HouseGOP) April 25, 2022
Donald Trump, however, was asked what he would do if Twitter restored his account. The former president told Fox News’ Brooke Singman that he will be using TRUTH Social instead.
“I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH,” Trump told Fox News. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH.”
Trump told Fox News he will begin “TRUTHing” over the next week. The 45th President also said that
“We’re taking in millions of people, and what we’re finding is that the response on TRUTH is much better than being on Twitter,” Trump said. “Twitter has bots and fake accounts, and we are doing everything we can.”
He added: “The bottom line is, no, I am not going back to Twitter.”
Trump has been a relatively infrequent poster on Truth. If he intends to run again for president, it would be tempting to use Twitter again as an invaluable tool to get his message out to his tens of millions of followers for his prospective 2024 campaign.
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) floated the purported upside of Trump returning to Twitter for Democrats. He called the possibility “terrible for the country but really good news for Democrats.”
As of Monday evening, Donald Trump’s original account was still ‘permanently suspended.’
Trump’s archived account still had censored tweets.
Expect this to change in the near future, whether or not the president intends to use his accounts, which were among the most potent and popular on Twitter.
This is breaking news. Check back for more developments…
