Are C-Sections Altering Human Evolution?

(Alanna Ketler) Cesarean sections have been on the rise in recent years, and sometimes, even prior to knowing whether or not one will even be necessary, many doctors are even scheduling this method of birth.

For women who have already had a c-section, most doctors tend to just do another one for any future births. I mean, it’s a lot easier when everyone is ready and prepared and can know in advance, right? Well, this is the common narrative that is given, but are we doing more harm than good by interfering with the natural process and order of birth?

This birthing method used to be performed for emergency situations only, in which case it has saved the lives of many mothers and babies. However, a new piece of research is suggesting that this procedure may be altering human evolution.

A New Study

In this particular study, researchers state that the estimated number of cases in which babies cannot be born naturally have increased from 30 in 1,000 births in the 1960s to 36 in 1,000 in the present day, which may not seem like a lot, but it is a 20 percent rise in obstructed childbirth’s. This is what led researchers to the assumption that this method of birthing could be altering the natural evolution of humans.

When it comes to babies who are about to be born, generally speaking, the larger the better because the longer time spent in the woman’s womb before being born, the better chance they have at survival. However, this standpoint counteracts another that selects women that have a narrow pelvis, which assists women to walk upright which reduces the chance of a premature birth.

The researchers point out that with the increase of c-sections, the natural balance of those two forces is changing. Before the days of caesarians, if a baby’s head was too big or a woman’s pelvis too narrow the babies head would get stuck in the pelvis, this would sometimes kill the child and potentially the mother as well, which in turn prevented those genes from being passed on. Now, because of this method of birth, those genes are being passed on, which could mean more demand for c-sections in the future.

“Without modern medical intervention such problems often were lethal and this is, from an evolutionary perspective, selection,” explains the University of Vienna’s Dr. Philipp Mitteroecker, who co-authored the study published in PNAS. “Women with a very narrow pelvis would not have survived birth 100 years ago. They do now and pass on their genes encoding for a narrow pelvis to their daughters.”

Could This Cause Evolutionary Changes?

Based on the information, it would appear so, however, we do not yet know for sure. The researchers haven’t provided evidence, but rather used statistical analysis which was based on data collected from the World Health Organization.

Even so, having the technology to be able to save women and babies is amazing, and obviously, because modern medicine can save them, it should. It would seem insane to have this technology and not use it. But this research does present an interesting theory and only time will tell just how much we are and have been altering natural human evolution. It is a wonder that women’s pelvis’ have not evolved to become more wide to be able to more naturally give birth. Compared to the rest of the animal kingdom, the human baby is much larger when compared to the size of its mother than the rest. This is a mystery that has baffled scientists and doctors for many years.

If the number of c-sections keeps rising, will it become more rare and difficult for the mother to give birth naturally? It’s possible and certainly something that deserves a closer look and to be studied in depth.

On Human Evolution

Human evolution itself is a very controversial topic. Sure, evolution happens, and has happened, that’s been firmly established and observed in scientific literature. What is not clear, is our connection to the theory of evolution. There are still many unaccounted ‘missing links’ and there are hundreds of scientists around the world who have thrown up red flags against the current theory of evolution, something that’s now turned into scientific dogma.

Human evolution is still theoretical, and the fact that several discoveries have been made with regards to strange looking humanoid mummies, skeletal remains of giants, historical artifacts and more have completely been hushed out and left out of mainstream literature is also very questionable.

Mainstream education teaches a 99 % DNA links is indicative of where we came from, but for example, we share approximately 65 percent of our DNA with a Banana, what does that mean? Are bananas part of our distant past?

Human beings aren’t clueless, and this is why, in 2014, a Gallup poll revealed that in the United States alone, almost half the population believe that there’s something more to the origins of human existence than the two options that are constantly presented to the masses. They believe that there is something more than Darwin’s theory of evolution.

This tells us that human intuition is telling us something more….and some of the greatest scientific minds agree.

Francis Crick, a Nobel Prize-winning co-discoverer of the DNA double helix, as Greg Braden points out,

Believed that the eloquence of life’s building blocks has to be the result of something more than random mutations and a lucky quirk of nature. Through his pioneering research, he was one of the first humans to witness the complexity and the sheer beauty of the DNA molecule that makes life possible. Late in life, Crick risked his reputation as a scientist by publicly stating, “An honest man, armed with all the knowledge available to us now, could only state that in some sense, the origin of life appears at the moment to be almost a miracle.” In the scientific world, this statement is the equivalent of heresy, suggesting that something more than chance evolution led to our existence.

Again, today, there are hundreds of scientists like Crick who believe the same thing, so remember that questioning this theory is not something you shouldn’t do. And for people to attempt to make you feel ‘dumb’ for questioning the theory of evolution, is arrogant and closed minded.

According to more than 500 doctoral scientists, “We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged.”

What is our mission? Why do we post what we do?

Our mission here is to curate (share) articles and information that we feel is important for the evolution of consciousness. Most of that information is written or produced by other people and organizations, which means it does not represent our views or opinions as managing staff of Stillness in the Storm. Some of the content is written by one of our writers and is clearly marked accordingly. Just because we share a CNN story that speaks badly about the President doesn’t mean we’re promoting anti-POTUS views. We’re reporting on the fact as it was reported, and that this event is important for us to know so we can better contend with the challenges of gaining freedom and prosperity. Similarly, just because we share a pro/anti-[insert issue or topic] content, such as a pro-second amendment piece or an anti-military video doesn’t mean we endorse what is said. Again, information is shared on this site for the purpose of evolving consciousness. In our opinion, consciousness evolves through the process of accumulating knowledge of the truth and contemplating that knowledge to distill wisdom and improve life by discovering and incorporating holistic values. Thus, sharing information from many different sources, with many different perspectives is the best way to maximize evolution. What’s more, the mastery of mind and discernment doesn’t occur in a vacuum, it is much like the immune system, it needs regular exposure to new things to stay healthy and strong. If you have any questions as to our mission or methods please reach out to us at [email protected].
