What is Larch Arabinogalactan Fiber?
Inner fibers extracted from the Larch Tree commonly found throughout North America are full of a highly branched polysaccharide called arabinogalactan.[1] What this means is that is is made up of many smaller sugar molecules that feed the bacteria in our gut, commonly referred to as a Prebiotic Fiber.
Humans lack the enzymes to break down arabinogalactan, allowing it to ferment in the gut and produce short-chain fatty acids as a result. Butyrate, an incredible short-chain fatty acid can act as an energy source for colon cells. Not only that, but Butyrate can quickly be turned into ketones for energy also.[2] [3]
When larch arabinogalactan fermentation occurs in the gut, many beneficial gut bacteria are created as a result. Most notably, arabinogalactan is great for supporting Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus strains.[4] These strains are known for promoting immune health as well as cognition.[5]
Immunity from Fiber?
That’s right, by taking in prebiotic fibers it allows for beneficial gut bacteria to grow and produce a myriad of immune system benefits.[6]
What’s most fascinating about larch arabinogalactan is it’s ability to stimulate natural killer cell cytotoxicity. This gives your gut the ability to build a more responsive immune system.[7]
Consider this fiber a great way to support a healthy gut and immune system for the long term.
Using prebiotic fiber helps keep you fuller longer, and so I use mine in Coffee, Tea, and Shakes!
