The Pella Aquatic Center is the site of a wonderful Dutch, Christian Reformed town, but they simply did nothing to prohibit the woman from exposing herself.
According to the Iowa Standard, the assistant manager said that anybody may dress according to their gender identity instead of biological sex.
“The policy is set by the city council, according to the aquatic center’s assistant manager,” The Iowa Standard stated.
According to the Iowa Standard, one local resident said:
“When brought to the facility’s attention, they explained there was nothing they could do. That state law protects this biological female, allowing her to walk around indecently exposing herself to all the families enjoying the facility. The facility is afraid if they act and require her to cover herself, they will face legal backlash. I find it appalling that this would actually be state law.”
“If someone were to take a picture, it wouldn’t be viewed as some boy at the pool in his swim shorts. It would be a topless photo of a biological female and it would be child pornography.”
The following are the general rules for the Pella Aquatic Center:
“The Pella Aquatic Center is a family-friendly facility. Inappropriate behavior, language, or attire are not permitted and will be grounds for refusing admission or removal from the facility without a refund. … Proper swim attire must be worn. It must be designed for swimming and made of non-absorbent material such as Lycra, spandex, nylon or neoprene. No cotton. No cut-offs. No metal grommets. Failure to abide by these rules may result in injury to yourself and others and could result in removal from the facility.”
On its website, the city of Pella writes:
“Visit Pella, Iowa, America’s Dutch Treasure! From our Dutch heritage museums, stunning flower gardens, great shopping and abundant recreation at Lake Red Rock, you are sure to enjoy your visit. … Pella is America’s Dutch Treasure! Visit the Netherlands, here in the Midwest. Explore our heritage museums, Dutch architecture, and the tallest working grain windmill in the United States. Taste pastries, meats and cheeses created from old-world recipes. Celebrate with us during our annual Tulip Time festival, featuring parades, the community dressed in authentic Dutch costumes, food, shopping markets, performances, and more.”
Iowa GOP Gov. Kim Reynolds expressed her support for legislation prohibiting biological men from participating in sports with biological females at the end of April.
Gov. Reynolds stated “we’re working on legislation” on the problem during a Fox News town hall. “I’m going to do what’s right for girls. I’m a mom of three daughters and a grandmother of three granddaughters who compete. And it’s the right (thing) to do. They should have the same opportunities,” she said, reported by the Des Moines Register.
