Newfound Alien Planet Is Best Place Yet to Search for Life
A newly discovered planet around a distant star
may jump to the top of the list of places where scientists should go
looking for alien life. The alien world known as LHS 1140b is rocky,
like Earth. It is only 40 light-years away from our solar system
(essentially, down-the-street in cosmic terms), and sits in the
so-called habitable zone of its parent star, which means liquid water
could potentially exist on the planet’s surface.
