(Catherine Cates) Being awake or conscious does not mean having a lot of knowledge about the universe, manifesting, psychic phenomena etc. You may well have such knowledge, but that does not necessarily mean that you are awake. It’s great to know about universal laws, but can you apply them? It’s interesting to know about angels, but does that help you wake up?

To lead a conscious life, you must be plugged, in present and in the flow. You must take what you know, and actually do something with it.
We’re Talking the Talk, Are We Walking the Walk?
But what is it that we actually already know? It’s easy to lose track of this. Many times, as I’m helping a client, they tell me they already know whatever I pointed out. Sometimes they almost argue with me. Gently I let them know that I’m here to support them and part of that is pointing out their incongruencies. They may be talking the talk, but are they walking the walk?
It can be hard to hear that because we can all talk a good game at times. We rationalize in our heads, “I know about law of attraction, I’ve got this.” But do you? Are you applying what you know or are you just talking about it?
You may know being in the present is where it’s at but in the heat of an argument it’s easy to forget. Are you taking the bait and arguing with someone or are you remembering to take a few deep breaths and respond, not react?
Are you having money issues and constantly talking about how broke you are? Yes, you may know about law of attraction, but are you living it? Not if you’re talking about your debt or lack.

Apply the Law of Attraction in Every Day Life
Remember what law of attraction says – like attracts like and where attention goes, energy flows. If you talk about how much money you don’t have, what are you going to get? More lack of money. Apply the principles so your financial troubles melt away.
At times I am also guilty of forgetting what I know and need to remind myself. Or I’ll call a good friend who won’t let me off the hook by bringing me back to what I know to be true. When we’re upset or frustrated it’s easy to go unconscious and forget what we know. In these situations, I have to ask myself if I’m taking my own advice?
Are you taking your own advice? Are you practicing what you preach? Are you living what you’ve learned?
Don’t fool yourself into thinking because you know a lot that you are actually applying it. Knowledge without application is rather useless. Keep on learning and also keep applying.
Avoid the Spiritual Junkie Trap
Some people can become spiritual junkies. They are learning and learning and learning but never apply any of it. They get stuck in all the information and don’t know what to do with it. So, they don’t. They freeze up or don’t take action. Analysis paralysis sets in. I’ve seen it happen and you may have too. No judgment, just an observation.
Or they keep taking courses as a way to prove to themselves they’re doing something to further their growth. Courses, webinars, podcasts, books are great learning tools but you have to do something with what you learn. Be aware so you don’t get caught in that loop. Real knowledge is in applying it.
Of course, continue learning if you enjoy that. The key is simply to understand that having knowledge of spiritual subjects, in and of itself, is not the same as being awakened.
If this is ringing bells with you, and you think you might be talking the talk but not walking the walk, what can you do to change?
Awareness is the Key to Change
The first step to change is always awareness. As I like to say, you can’t change what you don’t know. Be aware of what you’re saying. Are you saying the opposite of what you desire? Are you getting all negative without realizing it? Are you beating yourself up?
Now that you know you are engaging in any of these behaviors, you can change them. Check-in with yourself every hour to see what your thoughts have been if need be. Have your friend call you out for telling unproductive stories. Keep a story journal to jot down all the stories you tell in your head. Whatever it takes to stop engaging in behaviors that aren’t going to get you the results you desire, do it.
Be Present
The second step to change is being present. When you’re present you can catch yourself out so that you can react, not respond to an emotional trigger. When you’re present you can be aware of the stories you tell yourself and others and start telling new ones. When you’re present you can talk the talk, and also walk the walk. Walking the walk is what leads us to awakening and having a life of ease and grace.
Are you walking the walk? What are your top tips for staying aware, being present and applying what you’ve learned?

Stillness in the Storm Editor: Why did we post this?
Consciousness is one of the most mysterious phenomena of all time. Scientists, philosophers, and mystics have been searching for the answer to the question, What is Consciousness? for most of human history. In modern times, the spiritual origins of consciousness are being replaced with a materialistic view, that awareness emerges as an additive property of electrical impulses in living things. Despite the fact this theory is assumed to be true, any self-respecting psychologist will tell you we have no idea what consciousness really is. The preceding article discusses consciousness, some of its properties, and possible origins. This is helpful to contemplate because, in the act of trying to understand the mysteries of consciousness, you develop critical thinking skills and stimulate your philosophic muscles, both which are immensely important for almost everything we do in life. Additionally, you’ll develop abstract thinking skills, the ability to explore intangible realities that govern material realms. With the power of an active mind capable of navigating the realities of consciousness, great leaps in personal attainment can be made along with preparing you for the Great Work of making this world a better place.
