(Emily Crane) Elon Musk appears to have thrown his support behind the Canadian truckers leading massive anti-vaccine mandate protests in the country’s capital.

“Taking a break from politics for a while. Here’s a nice photo of trucks,” the billionaire Tesla founder tweeted Sunday alongside a photo of freight vehicles creating gridlock on a highway.
Just days earlier, Musk said in a tweet that “Canadian truckers rule” and “freedom is being stripped away one piece at a time until it is gone.”
His show of support came as thousands of protesters — mostly made up of a huge convoy of truckers – descended on Ottawa over the weekend to decry Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s COVID-19 vaccine mandates, as well as those involving masks and lockdowns.
Musk has previously spoken of his opposition to vaccine mandates – even though he’s said he supports the COVID shot because the “science is unequivocal.”
Canada’s so-called “Freedom Convoy” initially started as a protest against a vaccine mandate for cross-border truckers but quickly grew into a mass demonstration against the government over COVID regulations.
The truckers and others are protesting a new rule that took effect Jan. 15 requiring rig operators entering Canada to be fully vaccinated against COVID.
Dozens of trucks were lined up in front of Parliament buildings Saturday morning, including some that were parked on the grounds of the National War Memorial.
Protesters compared the vaccine mandates to fascism, one truck carried a Confederate flag, and many carried expletive-laden signs targeting Trudeau.
Many of the protesters remained in place Sunday.
Police have revealed they are now investigating possible criminal charges against anti-vaccine protesters who urinated and danced on the National War Memorial — and others spotted carrying swastika flags.
Videos emerged of protesters dancing on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the National War Memorial, while others desecrated a number of other monuments in the city.
The statue of national hero Terry Fox, an athlete who lost a leg to bone cancer, was draped with an upside-down Canadian flag and a sign saying, “Mandate freedom.”
Some demonstrators — mostly made up of a huge convoy of truckers and their supporters — were also spotted carrying signs and flags with swastikas through the streets.
“Several criminal investigations are under way in relation to the desecration of the National War Memorial/Terry Fox statue, threatening/illegal/intimidating behavior to police/city workers and other individuals and damage to a city vehicle,” Ottawa police said.
“Illegal behavior will not be tolerated and will be fully investigated.”
Trudeau, his wife and their children were reportedly moved from their home to a secret location in the capital as thousands of protesters descended on the city.
The PM, who spent last week working remotely and isolating after one of his children got COVID, said Monday he had since tested positive for the virus.
