Newspaper Refuses To Publish Description Of Mass Shooter To Prevent ‘Stereotypes’

(Carmine Sabia) We have now gotten to a time in our nation where stating the facts of a case are considered controversial by some, especially progressives.

Take the case of a mass shooter in Austin, Texas where a mass shooter injured 14 people on Saturday. The police provided a description of the black male shooter but one of the most prominent newspapers in the nation, The Austin American-Statesman, refused to publish the description of the shooter.

“Police have only released a vague description of the suspected shooter as of Saturday morning. The Austin American-Statesman is not including the description as it is too vague at this time to be useful in identifying the shooter and such publication could be harmful in perpetuating stereotypes. If more detailed information is released, we will update our reporting,” an editor’s note at the end of the story read.

What makes it more curious is that the stereotype of mass shooters appears to be that they are white males.

But to the Austin-American Statesman it is more important to hide the description of the shooter because it may offend someone than it is to actually catch a dangerous criminal.

Austin’s Sixth Street entertainment district, filled with revelers resuming post-pandemic life, again became the scene of chaos and bloodshed early Saturday when at least 14 people were wounded in a mass shooting that intensified questions about public safety and gun violence in one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities.

Austin Police Department officials confirmed that they worked with the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force to find and arrest one of two suspects involved in a previous dispute and were rapidly working to arrest the second man. Police did not immediately name the suspects. Interim Police Chief Joe Chacon said he was confident investigators soon would be able to untangle more details about what prompted the gunfire. He said the shooters could face a range of charges that include attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Officials said most of the victims, whose injuries ranged from moderate to critical, were innocent bystanders. Chacon said he believes no one died because of swift and heroic actions his officers took.

The shooting marked the most significant mass casualty incident local emergency officials have responded to citywide since 2014 — an incident that happened in the same area when a man plowed his car into a crowded, barricaded street during South by Southwest. Four people died, and 30 were injured. Although no one died in Saturday’s shooting, the incident also marked the first time that many people were shot in one event in Austin since the infamous mass shooting from the University of Texas Tower in 1966 that left 15 dead.

And even after an arrest was made in connection with the shooting even CNN did not mention the race of the suspect.

“Authorities have arrested one person in connection with the mass shooting overnight in downtown Austin, Texas, that left 14 people injured, Mayor Steve Adler’s office said,” CNN reported.

“Two of the people injured were in critical condition, Austin Interim Police Chief Joseph Chacon said at a press briefing Saturday.

“There was no information immediately available surrounding the circumstances of the arrest.

“During the Saturday news briefing, Chacon said authorities had identified two male suspects responsible for the shooting, and added that it appeared this was an isolated incident between the two parties,” it said.

Notice, still no mention of the shooter’s race. Do you think it would be the same if the shooter was a white male?

The issue is not black people or white people or Asian people or Hispanic people or any particular kind of people. People are people and some of them are bad and do bad things.

Race does not make someone more likely to be a criminal. But it does determine how the media will cover the story and that, in and of itself, is blatant racial discrimination that must be stopped.

If we cannot trust the media to tell us the truth based on race then why do we have a media to begin with?

Stillness in the Storm Editor: Why did we post this?

The news is important to all people because it is where we come to know new things about the world, which leads to the development of more life goals that lead to life wisdom. The news also serves as a social connection tool, as we tend to relate to those who know about and believe the things we do. With the power of an open truth-seeking mind in hand, the individual can grow wise and the collective can prosper.

What is our mission? Why do we post what we do?

Our mission here is to curate (share) articles and information that we feel is important for the evolution of consciousness. Most of that information is written or produced by other people and organizations, which means it does not represent our views or opinions as managing staff of Stillness in the Storm. Some of the content is written by one of our writers and is clearly marked accordingly. Just because we share a CNN story that speaks badly about the President doesn’t mean we’re promoting anti-POTUS views. We’re reporting on the fact as it was reported, and that this event is important for us to know so we can better contend with the challenges of gaining freedom and prosperity. Similarly, just because we share a pro/anti-[insert issue or topic] content, such as a pro-second amendment piece or an anti-military video doesn’t mean we endorse what is said. Again, information is shared on this site for the purpose of evolving consciousness. In our opinion, consciousness evolves through the process of accumulating knowledge of the truth and contemplating that knowledge to distill wisdom and improve life by discovering and incorporating holistic values. Thus, sharing information from many different sources, with many different perspectives is the best way to maximize evolution. What’s more, the mastery of mind and discernment doesn’t occur in a vacuum, it is much like the immune system, it needs regular exposure to new things to stay healthy and strong. If you have any questions as to our mission or methods please reach out to us at [email protected].
