(Ryan Ledendecker) Another day, another controversial decision by the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

According to Fox News, in preparation for the upcoming trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin, the cop who was involved in the death of George Floyd, which was a situation that spiraled out of control and resulted in mass riots across the country, the city has approved payment to have social media influencers spread targeted messages during the trial.
A group of social media influencers will rake in thousands in payments from the city to spread “city-approved” messaging as the trial is carried out, with the hopes of tamping down the temptation for further rioting and looting, especially in the case that Chauvin is not found guilty.
Community leaders and local media organizations will also be involved in spreading the narrative that Minneapolis leaders believe will help control the situation.
“The social media influencers, whose contracts have yet to be finalized, will be paid $2,000 each to share ‘city-generated and approved messages’ targeting Black, Native American, Somali, Hmong and Latinx communities,” the report indicated.
Not surprisingly, there’s already extreme backlash building in response to the bizarre move, with locals accusing the city of attempting to “buy” the narrative they want, which could hypothetically eliminate a free speech response to the situation, as Americans are entitled to express.
Minneapolis city leaders have a different view on the unconventional tactic, saying “the goal is to increase access to information to communities that do not typically follow mainstream news sources or City communications channels and/or who do not consume information in English,” a statement said. “It’s also an opportunity to create more two-way communication between the City and communities.”
While it’s yet to be seen whether or not the city is on the right track with their campaign to control the narrative, they at least made one smart move, which was entering into agreements with over a dozen different police departments to provide mutual aid during the trial, if needed.
“Our hope is the number of days that we need these officers will be very short,” City Coordinator Mark Ruff said. “That it will be a trial where there is peaceful expression of First Amendment rights and not destruction or other types of illegal activities that would require these officers to be around for numerous days.”
Yeah, good luck with that. If this trial doesn’t go EXACTLY how activist groups like Black Lives Matter and Antifa want it to go, the spring of 2021 in Minneapolis could make the summer 2020 riots look like a church picnic.
