(Ryan Ledendecker) New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo just can’t seem to stop digging himself deeper into a hole of scandal with regard to his handling of sending COVID-19 patients back to area nursing homes instead of quarantine centers, or virtually anywhere else, including a medical ship that could have housed thousands of them but instead, went unused.

The situation has apparently become so inflamed that now, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has weighed in on the matter, according to the Washington Examiner. AOC is demanding that an investigation be launched into his handling of the situation, supposedly on top of the DOJ and FBI investigations that were recently announced earlier this week.
AOC made crystal clear what her demands were in a Friday statement.
“I support our state’s return to co-equal governance and stand with our local officials calling for a full investigation of the Cuomo administration’s handling of nursing homes during COVID-19,” the firebrand, progressive lawmaker said.
“Thousands of vulnerable New Yorkers lost their lives in nursing homes throughout the pandemic,” she added. “Their loved ones and the public deserve answers and transparency from their elected leadership, and the Secretary to the Governor’s remarks warrant a full investigation.”
Her call comes on the heels of two major bombshell developments in the scandal, with the first being New York Attorney General Letitia James coming out earlier this month and revealing that nursing home deaths may have been underreported by as much as 50 percent.
Several weeks later, Cuomo’s top aide, Melissa DeRosa, admitted during a phone conference with a number of state Democrats that the Cuomo administration purposely withheld all of the data out of fear of reprisal from then-President Donald Trump’s DOJ.
State Republican Assemblymen are already preparing procedures to formally impeach the embattled governor and several others have called on him to resign over the matter.
One thing is for certain — AOC is literally one of the most popular, influential lawmakers on social media and if she digs in to this, Cuomo will face pressure like he’s never faced before. Acting tough only lasts so long in the PR spotlight, eventually, someone has to give.
With any luck, Cuomo will do America a favor and resign, as it would be in everyone’s best interest.
