(Kyle Becker) President Joe Biden was asked if he wanted the Department of Justice to prosecute Donald Trump following his exoneration at the Senate impeachment trial on Saturday.

“Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said that the former president is, quote, ‘still liable for everything he did while he was in office’,” Andersoon Cooper said at CNN’s town hall on Tuesday. “If your Department of Justice wanted to investigate him, would you allow them to proceed?
The framing of the question is that Biden might be asked to sign off on such a Department of Justice criminal investigation and whether or not he would give the ‘go-ahead.’
“I made it clear that one of the things about — that one of the most serious pieces of damage done by the last administration was the politicizing of the Justice Department,” Biden claimed.
“Any of you who are lawyers know, whether you’re a Democrat, Republican, conservative or liberal, it has been more politicized than any Justice Department in American history,” he added.
This is a big lie that should not go unchecked in the mainstream media — although it almost certainly will be. After the numerous outrageous violations of due process under the extremely political Obama administration Attorney Generals Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch, the Department of Justice under both Jeff Sessions and William Barr failed to bring any of the major players who had spied on the Trump presidential campaign and undermined his transition to justice.
Barr, in fact, disappeared when Donald Trump needed him most and reportedly allowed the DOJ to ‘fast track’ a number of the executive orders issued early on in the Biden administration.
In addition, the Biden administration is engaging in an unprecedented political witch hunt to root out Trump holdovers in the Department of Justice. The firings have even triggered bipartisan backlash.
“The Biden administration will begin removing all Senate-confirmed U.S. attorneys appointed during the Trump administration, with two exceptions,” a senior Justice Department official said in early February..
The media narrative that Donald Trump should be “prosecuted” was fueled by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s dubious statements about his decision to vote to acquit Donald Trump at the Senate impeachment trial.
“President Trump is still liable for everything he did while in office,” he said. “He didn’t get away with anything yet. We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation.”
“Lawyers inside the Washington, DC attorney general’s office are working to determine if it is legally viable to use district statutes to charge former President Donald Trump for his alleged role in the insurrection,” an ABC affiliate earlier reported.
The Supreme Court has ruled that presidents enjoy “absolute immunity” from civil litigation. As far as criminal prosecution is concerned, such an attempt is likely to fail.
Donald Trump on Tuesday blasted McConnell for his threat. “He will never do what needs to be done, or what is right for our Country,” Trump said, adding he will “back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our policy of America First.”
“I made a commitment, I will not ever tell my Justice Department — and it’s not mine; it’s the people’s Justice Department — who they should and should not prosecute,” Biden also said. “Their prosecutorial decisions will be left to the Justice Department, not me.”
This seems to be the case nowadays with a lot of Biden’s “presidential” decisions. If Biden’s passive statements are any indication, his own Department of Justice is cooking up an already discredited case to ‘prosecute’ the former president.
