Last year I saw ball lightning a few feet away from where I was standing. I was inside my house looking out the very large windows during a thunder storm and it happened about 20 ft. from me. It struck the ground with a loud explosion and then a bright red ball about the size of a soccer ball flew up from the ground and outward in an arc about 20 ft. high (away from where I was standing) and disappeared. It destroyed everything near where it struck (like a fence) and ALL the large, mature (30 ft. tall) palms near the fence died within a week or so. There was a small hole in the ground where it hit but no other evidence that I found. I have tried to get more info about this for months and can’t find anything. We have lived in FL south of Tampa for 20 years so we are very familiar with lightning and have never seen anything like this or been hit by any kind of lightning. Most sources say they don’t know what ball lightning is! Any info would be really appreciated!
Thanks so much,
Ann Kaplan
