According to Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, Ethan Crumbley used a handgun in the mass shooting that was purchased on Black Friday by his father James Crumbley. James and Ethan Crumbley are pictured together in the Facebook photo below. The photo was shared on Facebook on March 3, 2018.
The weapon used was a 9mm Sig Sauer SP 2022 pistol, Bouchard said. The suspect had at least two, 15-round magazines, including one with seven remaining rounds when authorities apprehended the suspect.
Here’s a screenshot from Ethan Crumbley’s Instagram showing the gun that match’s the description of the one police confiscated from him following the mass shooting.
Someone posted photos of the gun allegedly used at Oxford High School and targets on social media in the days leading up the Tuesday’s shooting.
“It’s my understanding, again, that this was a recent weapon purchase, that he had been shooting with it. And they posted pictures of (a) target and the weapon,” Bouchard said.
“When they took it from him, he had a loaded firearm. He was coming down the hall. That again, I believe, interrupted what potentially could have been seven more victims,” Bouchard said.
Fox 2 News – When deputies stopped the teen, the gun still had seven rounds in it. He was arrested without incident.
“We believe he came out of a bathroom with a weapon in hand. Deputies took (the gun) from him he was walking down the hall,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “That interrupted what could have led to several more victims. The way I see it is, there were seven more victims in that gun.”
Investigators searched the shooter’s home on East Sreet on Tuesday evening and seized key evidence, including what appeared to be several long guns.
Here is a screen shot from Ethan’s Instagram account (his account name is “Black Death”) where he posted an ominous warning:
“Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”
See you tomorrow, Oxford.
Here’s another screenshot of Ethan Crumbley’s social media posts showing bizarre, disturbing and satanic images.
Multiple parents told the Free Press that their children enrolled at the school heard rumors of some violence ahead of school Tuesday; some took it seriously enough to prevent their children from attending classes in person.
Last week, an email was sent to Oxford High School parents notifying them of “rumors that have been circulating throughout the building that evolved from an incident a week ago. Social media users have used the statement from the school to the parents to accuse the school of knowing about a potential threat but not taking the proper precautions to prepare the school for such an incident. But according to Fox 2 News, the email was in response to a severed deer head that was placed in the school courtyard and graffiti that was written on the walls of the school.
Sheriff Bouchard shot down rumors about earlier concerns that have nothing to do with the Oxford High School shooting.
Teyshan Bryant, a senior at Oxford High School told reporters for WXYZ TV that Ethan Crumbley was bullied and picked on in school.
Bouchard also said there was no evidence of any disciplinary actions or problems with Crumbley at school. He also clarified that neither he, nor the resource officer at Oxford High School had any contact with Ethan or his family.
During and after the shooting, students began to message each other, pointing the finger at Ethan Crumbley for the shooting. This message thread between students shows one of the Oxford High School students identifying Ethan as the shooter.
Law enforcement searched the suspect’s home Tuesday, located in Oxford, and seized the suspect’s cellphone. While Bouchard said he was not sure what elselaw enforcement found at the home, he appeared open to the idea that the suspect’s parents could face charges related to the use of the father’s gun.
“That will all be up to the prosecutor,” Bouchard said, when asked whether the parents of the suspect could face charges.
Now, it’s being reported that Oxford High School Official met with Ethan Crumbley and his parents the day before and the morning of the school shooting.
The sheriff’s office said it was unaware of these meetings or any concerning behavior by the suspected shooter until after the shooting.
“We have since learned that the schools did have contact with the student the day before and the day of the shooting for behavior in the classroom that they felt was concerning,” Bouchard said during a news conference.
