Is philosophy dead or just long forgotten? Exploring meaning is arguably the foundation of all other experience. And yet, how often do we consider this all encompassing aspect of life?
All philosophy is not created equal. Spirituality and philosophy are intimately associated because judging values is a process of meaning appraisal.
Whether you consider yourself a philosopher or not, you use meaning exploration every day. As such, learning to use this essential faculty will impart personal empowerment that provides a backbone for all other pursuits.
To deny oneself philosophy is to cast the keys to personal salvation, freedom, and mastery into the abyss.
While one need not become a professional philosopher, learning to use consciousness to explore meaning is essential. Those who practice this skill place the power of perspective in their own hands, able to generate positive emotional states and navigate through personal challenges with greater degrees of ease and prowess.
When life takes on a grand and inspiring meaning, you have just exercised your philosophic muscles. Similarly, when life seems dark, tragic and uninspiring, philosophy is what is used to restore the balance by altering the way the world is perceived.
Ultimately, all lasting joys in life pass through the lens of the mind and subjectivity and are polished by the hard work of contemplation, insight, intuition, and analysis—which are the domains of philosophy.
