As I read the following Waking Times article about the Spiritual Causes of Depression, I thought of all the experiences in my life and looked for the root cause of my own depression. A dysfunctional relationship with the divine is offered as the source of depression, which I take to mean, an inability to properly recognize who we are and how we relate to the universe; the result of incomplete or false knowledge.
The more true knowledge we have acquired the more empowered we feel once we transition through the awakening experience. This usually creates an activist modality of expression – instead of feeling depressed and unhappy about the injustice in the world, we feel charged and driven to do something about it. At a psychological level, when we become aware of something painful, dramatic or unjust if this makes us depressed it is because we lack the self confidence (self knowledge) to act to change it.
The premise being: the more accurate and complete our knowledge of self and the world, the less disempowered we feel once we learn a truth that counters our beliefs.
Vaccination: the BIG Red Pill
A great example of this is the Vaccination issue. We have been posting more data about this on the blog. because it is a key issue with the potential to be a very large Red Pill. Observing the reactions of many, even those who call themselves ‘awake’ I observe the following reaction: “Vaccination is ok, the science works” – but no one actually had done any substantive research to validate this belief. This is a critical point to consider when analyzing the psychology of the awakening experience.

Here we have a situation where many people believe vaccines work, and allow their children and loved ones to be injected, but have no real knowledge about how they work. When confronted with Anti-Vaccination information there is a reaction, as if one is being attacked. “If Vaccines are ineffective, pushing untold suffering onto billions, then I am morally culpable for any suffering as a result of my acceptance Vaccine Doctrine” – people the world over would feel incredible guilt as a result of accepting the truth about Vaccines. This thought process is merely an allegory, as the reaction plays out in the subconscious.
Psychologically, people who lack real knowledge (only blind acceptance of experts and authorities) will NEVER take the time to educate themselves because they simply do not have the basic knowledge needed to understand the data. This does not mean it is beyond hope, just that our critical thinking process is very rusty. Data processing is like a language process, if we lack the personal understanding we simply can’t make sense of the idea and reject it at an emotional level to protect our identity; the Ego. Many, many people are at this level of consciousness due to the years of indoctrination in modern society. “I just don’t have time to read or watch this, and it’s BS anyway.” is the typical response from someone who does not possess the faculties to understand something personally.
These are the Groupthink ‘sheeple‘ described by many which react to new information emotionally instead of rationally, invoking the fight or flight R Complex response when hearing information that counters their accepted beliefs. This group is so dependent on experts and authorities, that I would argue they need a good leader in truth to slowly empower them with confidence and compassionately encourage them to seek the truth at a personal level. The leader must constantly remind this group of their innate ability to understand concepts personally, and slowly develop this confidence within, eventually pushing them out of the nest to go be their own experts. The key idea here being: everyone MUST become their own leader.
Taking all this into consideration, the causes of depression can be summed up into one premise: Awareness of injustice creates a powerful emotional charge, which if combined with true knowledge results in Righteous Indignation and an activist awakening experience. When combined with extrinsic knowledge (expert opinion), the emotional charge is directed inward, and all the anger energy is experienced as self loathing, helplessness and depression.
Paths to Awakening: Spiritual Activism or Disempowerment
Depending where we are in our development, as a function of how accurately and completely we have reflected reality within, there are two general paths taken:
Disempowerment Path
One path is discovering the deception all around us and then choosing to follow a guru or belief system which gives us the ability to ‘feel good’ despite the rampant immorality we are now profoundly aware of. The bogus New Age Movement is ready and waiting, providing a host of belief systems that allow us to suppress this very real awareness of things being wrong on earth. We can focus on passive belief systems that require no personal work or growth other than learning how to be more ‘positive’. This can come from: ET’s, Energy Guru’s, the “Law of Attraction” so we can continue to live with a minimum of emotional disruption.
I personally fell into this trap for my first few years after awakening. I went to many workshops, drum circles and the like, where people in attendance recognized the insanity, yet felt there was little that could be done. “There is nothing I can do to change things and people won’t listen.“
It usually goes something like this: We try letting our friends and family know about what we learned only to be rejected, slipping into a quiet despair. This leads us to be more easily taken up into social institutions which give is a feeling of personal satisfaction, but achieve very little to change the status quo and end the suffering and actually indoctrinate us into passive belief systems. The sense of Spirituality developed in this path is that of Dualistic Enlightenment, by a process of meditation and separation, we try to ‘feel good’ in a world filled with so much injustice, taking an observers approach. This can actually give us the feeling of happiness and bliss, but requires a constant defense against reality. We ‘turn away from the negative’ because it hinders our sense of enlightenment; ergo the Bogus New Age Doctrine of “if you pay attention to the negative you empower it, just ignore it and it will all go away magically.” We may follow one hyped event after another, always forgetting the broken promises pushed by their proponents: ET ‘rescues’, Ascension Scenarios, Mass Arrests, Channeled Messages of Passivity, RV’s, NESARA, etc. only looking at data which confirms our beliefs, and rejecting anything which makes us question things more.
Spiritual Activism
The Second path can usually follow the first, but not always. Many wake up to the deception, feel despair and never get out of a disempowered state of being. But sometimes something happens, we watch a loved one suffer, or feel a drive to do something and we realize that activism is essential; ‘It doesn’t feel right to be the observer. A sense of righteous indignation pushes us to learn more and educate ourselves. This slowly builds up practical knowledge so that we begin to speak more openly with confidence. Eventually we realize that a truly Spiritual awakening must also be reconciled with a profound awareness of our moral duty to act and help our fellows. Service to Others ways of being.
In this second path, the one which unifies us with ALL life, acknowledgement of Natural Law principles in essence – which not only empowers us to help others but heals the root cause of the depression rife on earth. Many people who are unawakened sense the profound meaninglessness of materialistic life and feel depressed as a result. But once we do the hard work of facing our deepest fears – that we are not smart enough or good enough to actually be a force for change – we finally let go of the shackles within our own mind’s, and begin to grow spiritually and mentally. Emotional courage is our reward.
Altruism and the Great Work
The emotional charge of seeing injustice is now directed outwardly, and slowly but surely uplifts the consciousness of others via Altruistic Activism. This path is far more emotionally turbulent, as we are constantly put in experiences of observing injustice and feeling the drive to take action, having to constantly muster the courage to face our loved ones, friends and fellows. Here it is helpful to recognize when someone is reacting emotionally instead of rationally, and address the emotional disturbance first, before attempting to share more data at a rational level.
I want to end this by saying, I have been feeling this emotional charge, the suffering of others deeply of late. And I have slipped into several bouts of depression as a result of feeling like I could do nothing. But when I am able to muster the courage, to speak the truth and confront those whose minds are darkened by deception I feel better and it gives me a sense of hope. Hope is our friend in this light I feel, and the hope that our work to end the suffering of ALL, the Great Work as it has been called by many, is what keeps me going on a daily basis.
The not-so-merry-go-round of society
I put it to you, that the root cause of all Depression,
is a dysfunctional relationship with the divine.
So this is probably the number 1 reason people get depressed – they’ve been sold a lie which can never fulfill the sense of inner completeness. Worse still, prescribed drugs tend to lock people into the disconnection – they manage the situation rather than solve it.
Meditation is a powerful solution to this ‘madhouse’. I was running a course recently where one person had been steadily reducing from a daily cocktail of 18 prescribed drugs each day! Regular meditation, and seeking inner completeness, has reduced that to just one – soon that will fall by the wayside too.
We are alone in the Universe – we are “all-one”
It’s on this journey, that at some point, the soul realises something crucial: that the soul in itself, is not an identity, but a stream of consciousness – a stream of experience. It means there’s only one self in the universe – the One; and you are that. I’ve witnessed many people in spiritual work arrive at this realisation. And in the beginning it can feel very lonely – you realise you are entirely alone in the universe! How do you deal with this?
The Pain of Existence
You have to be totally in the moment, and totally accepting of what is arising for you as an experience. If it’s tightness, unhappiness and resistance, embrace it, feel it, don’t push it away. Work at becoming ‘as-one’ with the experience; which means to be so intimate with it, that it’s like you’ve been completely submerged within it. And you may then stop defining it as some kind of judgment the ego has made.
Where’s your Tribe, what’s your Vibe?
Many of these experiences will be much lighter and more expanded (the earth vibration being pretty dense). Plus many will have a greater sense of unity and harmony. So you could well be a starsoul, who has the sense your real home is elsewhere (it’s something I often hear). And being disconnected from your true ‘tribe’ can cause a fair amount of sadness – leading possibly to depression. In these instances, I encourage people to open a connection with their soul family – through their ‘vibe’. It can be done in meditation: you simply have to open your heart and extend an invitation.
Chemical Imbalances
- Fixed negative behaviour patterns: Conditioned depressive and distorted behaviours release negative neuro peptides that infuse our body. As previously mentioned, activating endorphins can greatly help prevent the uptake of these negative chemical imbalances. It’s something definitely to be explored. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t have pleasure and joy in our lives (check out this article here…The Uplifting Effect of Endorphins).
- Moontime: the adverse hormonal imbalances of the feminine monthly cycle – ‘Moontime’ – affects a great deal of women, and can easily cause anxiety and depression (having a big impact on relationships). Herbs such as Agnus castus can greatly help ease the burden (find out more in this informative article here…Honouring the Sacred Feminine Moontime).
- Cold weather and Lack of Sunshine: In colder climates where the winter days are cloudy and short, this can lead to vitamin D deficiency, which is a known cause of depression. Load up on vitamin D; nurture yourself with plenty of extra sleep. Protracted cold closes the body down as a protection mechanism. But it can close your consciousness down too. So intersperse these ‘hibernation’ periods with plenty of aroma therapy hot baths and saunas, to soften internal body tightness and to open lighter, uplifted and nurtured consciousness.
Be patient and trust in the Inner Guidance Mechanism of the Soul
It does take a good deal of work and attention – commitment to feeling into the experience, accepting it without needing it to go away, thus becoming ‘as-one’ with it; we penetrate the experience into “The One”. It feels ordinary – awesomely ordinary. It’s completely okay. Suddenly you laugh at yourself and feel much better.
